Sherfield School

Hi everyone, I know there have been some mixed reviews in the past about Sherfield School but I wondered if anyone had any thoughts on it following the change in Head a few years ago (and who, from a couple of online reviews from Muddy Stilettos/Talkeducation, seems to have done a pretty good job at turning the school around)? We are considering the school for our 2 children (to go into the senior prep) and am interested in anyone's experiences there. In particular, what are the sport teams like and do they manage to field competitive teams for each year group? I understand that drama/art/music are fairly good as well? Many thanks in advance for any thoughts/insights!

I’d be interested in this too. We pulled our dd out of Sherfield a few years ago for several reasons and she’s been very happy at a state school. We are now looking at private again for secondary and, having had a poor experience at Sherfield previously, have been looking at sending her to a school that’s a fair distance away. It’s frustrating because Sherfield is so close! But the results don’t seem great even considering that it’s non selective. It would be great if the new head has managed to turn things round - would be very interested to hear any current views.

Just a bump to see if anyone had any thoughts on this. Many thanks.

My daughter is at Sherfield having moved from an excellent state school in Year 9. Academically she is doing well and they have accommodated her subject choices which other schools we looked at wouldn’t do. In terms of sport, it’s not the sportiest for team sports but they compete well enough with similar schools in the region. If sporty is what you want then look at LWC, QA, Pangbourne, Bradfield etc

Forgot to say, the head is brilliant. Knows every child by name and is very amenable.

Moved from state to senior prep and very impressed with the level of education so far! The head is very approachable and friendly, lots of opportunities for the parents to attend. My child isn’t sporty but has been included in matches with other schools. Lots of good after school activities on offer. We opted out of the local secondary schools as the results weren’t great. In Hampshire none of the schools have attached 6th form and that was also a consideration.

Thank you @thesurreyyouth and @Kenya2312 It’s good to hear some positive feedback. Could anyone tell me roughly how many pupils in year 7? I’m struggling to find this info on the website. thanks.

@craicers I think the year group sizes are
Year 5 - 2 tutor groups
Year 6 - 2
Year 7 - 3
Year 8 - 4 (big intake in year 7 increasing from 3 to 4)
Year 9 - 2
Not sure about other year groups
