CLSG or G&L

My daughter is trying for a music scholarship to both schools. Does anyone have any idea which school is stronger in music. The hurdle rate for the admissions policy is Grade 6 at CLSG and 5 for G&L but are the applicants at G&L less talented? Any idea of the actual scholarship standard at either school? Thanks

I’m pretty sure G&L is grade 7 standard rather than 5. My DD is at one of the feeder preps and that what head of music advised that toy he considered it’s grade 7 and not on piano or violin

Which school is harder to get into?

Music scholars at CLSG all seemed to be about Grade 7 upwards last year on application - same for SPGS - I'm afraid I don't know much about G&L. With scholarships obviously there are exceptions (kids who have multiple instruments at grade 7+ or ones who haven't taken any high grades but play beautifully). So, definitely worth applying - what instrument does your DD play?

@Grandjany PM me if you'd like more info on the scholarship process. We did it all quite recently.

Yes please, we think our daughter may get a music scholarship to G&L or City. Not sure what the competition is but she is Grade 7 harp and piano. Need as much info about these 2 schools and the selection process as possible.

Harp is a very good instrument for a music scholarship as it's so unusual. At Grade 7 harp she has a decent chance at any of the London day schools.

Agreed re harp! Have PM'd you with our experiences.

yes I'm pretty sure she is then very likely to get it as Harp very rare to that high standard. however it seems to depend on what gaps the school has in the orchestras so it does change year on year .

Any one has any experience for the Art scholarship at CLSG? What sort of standard they look for? How easy it is get?

Grandjany · 19/02/2022 12:37

She got both. Our daughter chose G&L; she said the girls were ‘less in your face’!!!

Personally, I could not have chosen between them myself. They are both fantastic schools; I just want my daughter to be happy.
