Hi - can I get advice on how to help DD prepare for UKMT junior? I'm really confused about the different types of maths challenges and the best books etc. I bought a few books from Amazon but they seem to be for junior Olympiad which is later it seems.

Apart from books would appreciate any other advice on how to prepare (e.g. past papers, topics, tutors etc).

Thanks in advance!

Ukmt website has lots of past papers that you can try.

Thanks @Zebee you're right, there are a lot of resources on the website

Junior Olympiad needs maths thinking. Books like Murderous Maths, Alice in the numberland, and Cabinet of Mathematical Curiositiesare etc. are very good reading. Of course, past papers are useful but might be difficult as most of the questions haven't been covered by the maths curriculum.

Thanks @User11010866 I've ordered the books except for Alice in Numberland that seems to be unavailable on Amazon. Look forward to discussing with DD

What I meant is at the Olympiad level. For the challenge level, doing the past papers is useful.

Ah okay. Got it. Thanks @User11010866
Are there any books or material at Junior challenge level to make it more interesting? Doing past papers might seem like more of a drill ...!

DC just did 2 past papers before entering JMC. And the same for the JMO. It's supposed to be fun. The books I mentioned earlier are useful. But it is a slow process. DC started to read in year 4 as I remembered.
