GCSE Tutors

Hi my child is in year 11 and I have four tutors for various subjects weekly it’s costing me a fortune but I felt she needed it due to the mocks in Jan
How often do you have tutoring ? Weekly or every two weeks ? I’m thinking about every two weeks for each subject and then maybe extra as the GCSE exams get closer

Personally I think that is a lot of tutoring.
Would you not be better off focusing on 2 subjects weekly rather than tutoring in 4?

What is your 'aim'?

Often tutoring is to get a critical/weak subject up a grade or so to enable progression to the next step. If you have 4 critical/weak subjects maybe the 'next step' is being aimed too high?

Though I accept this is again not a normal year.

Tutors might not be willing to do fortnightly - it would only work if they had someone else wanting fortnightly to alternate in the slot.

I agree entirely with TeenPlusCat. Four subjects does seem a lot, and I agree that prioritising two subjects might be more sensible. If she's struggling with what she needs for her proposed 16+ course in four subjects, then she's probably going to struggle with that course.

What subjects OP? I agree with others, I would focus on English and Maths tbh, and maybe science?

I am a tutor (not those subjects before anyone thinks I am touting!!) and would not be mad about fortnightly; I have a limited number of slots as I also work ft and a fortnightly slot would just be me missing out on a week's money IYSWIM. Everyone I work with I see once or even twice a week. Twice a week tends to be a shorter session tho (30 mins x 2 often works better than one hour esp if online so no travel).

My dc has an online tutor every 2 weeks. The tutor is fantastic - so well prepared and focused. The online lessons work amazingly well with so many targeted resources used. After the lesson the tutor emails homework and resources which my dc completes on the week when there is no lesson, so they are working independently. The tutor marks the work and returns via email, which dc corrects/improves before the next lesson.

I was hesitant about the online route, but I must say I prefer it for dc - the whole session is used for intensive learning - and no travelling!
I found the tutor through an online tutoring agency and the there was no issue with booking fortnightly.

I teach a core subject and would not tutor fortnightly.
