Hello, just wondered if anyone's DC have a certificate from the 2019 UKMT maths challenge. On the back I think it will say how roughly how many participants there are with ratios of gold:silver:bronze certificates. Can someone say how many participants it says .
Thank you

I think you can find this on the UKMT website along with medal boundary scores.

yoyo1234 · 06/01/2022 14:05

I have tried (I may be missing something). It's the 2019 I'm interested in , any help really appreciated.

Just found DS's Gold certificate from JMC 2019. On the back it says;

"In each recent year the JMC has had over 315,000 entries from around 4000 schools. Gold, Silver and Bronze Certificates are awarded to the highest scoring 40% of candidates in the ration 1:2:3."

Hope that is what you were after.

MrsHerculePoirot · 06/01/2022 14:11

Yes it’s on their website. Over 270,000 entrants and the certificates awarded the same as always - top 40% of entrants get gold/silver/bronze in ratio 1 : 2 : 3

@IThinkIMadeItWorse
Thank you so much that was exactly what I was looking for Smile

*over 272,000

archive.ukmt.org.uk/pdfs/2019-06-newsletter-60-web.pdf

beeswain · 06/01/2022 14:13

I cut and pasted this from a different website.

Year Bronze Silver Gold
2021 45 57 73
2020 (online) 70 86 102
2019 41 54 71
2018 49 61 75

Generally speaking, around 250,000-270,000 children take the paper, top 10% get a Gold, next 20% achieve a silver and next 30% Bronze.
2017 52 63 77

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 06/01/2022 14:13

*ratio not ration obviously

beeswain · 06/01/2022 14:13

Sorry that didn't come out too well - for 2019- Bronze score threshold 41, Silver 54, Gold 71

yoyo1234 · 06/01/2022 14:15

@MrsHerculePoirot
Thank you. Is that JMC 2019? Can you post a link so I can workout how to get the numbers for different challenges myself from the website. Smile

@MrsHerculePoirot,
I have tried the search function on the UKMT website for eg Newsletter 2020 and even "archive" etc to no luck with getting numbers for the IMC for 2020. Could you help me please? Sorry about this .

Think this might be the website you need
mathsaurus.com/intermediate-maths-challenge-grade-boundaries/

MrsHerculePoirot · 06/01/2022 19:26

@yoyo1234 I can’t find the numbers for 2020. This was the first year they offered it online due to lockdown and I don’t know if they sent a newsletter that year in the same way…. I’ll have a proper look later.

yoyo1234 · 06/01/2022 19:27

It's not the grade boundaries really. Just he number of participants in the IMC for 2020. The newsletter for the 2019 JMC numbers was great-especially as it was from the UKMTSmile.

Good point about it being online in 2020. Thank you again everyone.

The IMC wasn't online in 2020 as it was in Feb, then my DS sat the Olympiad in March just before lockdown. The JMC was online in 2020.

yoyo1234 · 06/01/2022 20:07

@IThinkIMadeItWorse,
Thank you for your post above about IMC not being online Smile. That makes sense I did not recall the IMC being online 2020

I found DS's IMC certificate from 2019 and it says;

"The IMC has grown out of a UK-wide challenge. In recent years there have been over 260,000 entries from around 3,300 schools. Certificates are awarded to the highest scoring 40% of candidates (Gold:Silver:Bronz, 1:2:3)."

Doesn't look like he got a certificate for IMC 2020 (or he has lost it - quite possible) and his 2021 certificate is just blank on the back (it might have been printed by his school?)

I think the UKMT updated their website since that newsletter was published so possibly they don't do them in that format any more?

yoyo1234 · 06/01/2022 20:08

Hope it went well for you DS

They stopped sending out certificates, I think from the JMC 2020 and we now download and print them. They no longer have that information on the back of them.

MrsHerculePoirot · 06/01/2022 21:02

The JMC was the first to go online as that was the first after the original lockdown. Since then schools have choice of online or paper entries.

Hello, I am just relocated to London for a few months. My DD has 132 CAT score in maths. She is now in year 6. I am thinking if I should let her try this Maths Challenge? She did very bad at her 11+ exams (her English CAT is 114, so she failed to get offer from the senior school she loves), I am thinking if this math challenge thing can help her to rebuild her confidence.

Would love to hear advise from you all! xx
