What’s everyone’s opinion on doing business studies, economics and law for a levels? What’s the workload like for these subjects?

Absolutely fine combo of subjects, lots of links between which can be good as they support each other. The downside is if your child changes interests during sixth form there isn’t much variety iyswim.

Workload is pretty standard for A Levels, none of those are especially known for a bigger workload but they will all include a fair amount of essays/long form writing.

Business and Law are ‘soft’ subjects it’s normally recommended that 2 more traditional subjects and one ‘soft’ is a better combination.
My DH is an academic lawyer and would advise strongly against Law as an A Level. It’s a definite no if you are considering a Russell Group univ. The leading 6th Form College here - which is one of the top 5 in the UK - don’t offer Law as an A level.

Business is not a good pairing with Economics as the latter is the more sophisticated form of the former.

Although, I would add that if there is a particular career being aimed at a careers advisor at school might help with subject choices

DS1 did Business with Maths and and Geography, he's gone on to do Geog at a RG. He needed two A's and a B, and although was aware Business was a softer choice was glad he had chosen it as he struggled with the Maths (that ended up as his B), loved Geog and his A in Business wasn't too much of a stretch. So a combination of taking the subjects most likely to get where needed and those where he was most likely to meet the required grades. He certainly didn't have a love of Business.
