Year 12 DS got 48% on past maths paper

DS has said all term that he’s finding maths quite easy. He had a really good first report and no problems that I know of so I was quite shocked when he told me his mark for a past paper they’ve just sat. I’m not sure what to think. He said most of them scored around this and the teacher had said to the class not to be too worried about their marks. Should I be concerned?

Is this an A level paper? so one like the one he will sit in about 18months' time?

If so then clearly, 48% is a great mark. Maths is not my subject but I would be delighted if an MFL student of mine gained 48% on an actual A level paper in December of yr 12.

But surely they haven't covered all of the material yet? But I assume they have tried to answer all of the questions. That would be a reason why the mark isn't as high as you are expecting

I just asked him. He said it was an AS paper.

So he's studied about half the syllabus at this stage of year 12. Sounds a good score !
