Hi is anyones school still doing ski trips for Feb 2022? Ds is off to Austria and even now school still saying they hope it'll go ahead. I presumed they'd have cancelled by now!

Ours have cancelled and moved everyone to 2023, assuming they will still be at the school

morasmum · 13/12/2021 18:04

Here, school trip to Austria also cancelled.

Watapalava · 13/12/2021 18:33

I'm amazed its still on but think they hope all kids be double vax by then
I presumed council would make them cancel due to all the associated risks of isolations etc

School ski trip to Austria originally planned for Feb 21 now moved on again to Feb 23. I can't see how it is possible to still plan for Feb.

megletthesecond · 13/12/2021 20:37

DD is going 1st week of April and it's not cancelled yet.

Tralalalala21 · 13/12/2021 20:41

Trip to France cancelled

funtimesahead100 · 13/12/2021 20:45

DD's Austrian ski trip at easter 2022 has been postponed to 2023 about 3 weeks ago

Watapalava · 14/12/2021 17:38

seems we are out of sync - today schools sent out the school ski clothing list! Seems irresponsible to me getting people to go out and buy ski stuff given how unlikely it will go ahead. The vax team only went into school late so the kids cant even be double vax til 3 days before they are due to go!

Italy here in April, school aiming for doubly vaxed kids to go, one difficulty is below 16 you can’t be on the NHS app and so hard to prove vaccination status.

Watapalava · 14/12/2021 18:00

yes and also worried as even tho vaccinated people don't usually have to test on the way out, they do have to test to return. Given how many kids are asymptomatic, it seems mad they risk having kids test positive over in austria without knowing they even have covid

I thought you weren't considered "fully vaccinated" until 2 weeks after the 2nd dose because it take a while for the immune system's response to the vaccine to take full effect. Will the relevant country actually allow them in even if travel for vaccinated people is allowed?
Watapalava · 14/12/2021 19:02

it doesnt stipulate a timeframe from last vaccine to travel for austria so presume they can go right away although it doesnt give them time to sort vax passports etc

We are also Itally end of March. Still not cancelled.

megletthesecond · 15/12/2021 13:45

Ok, email from school today reminding parents that if their DC hasn't had their first jab they are running out of time for an Easter trip. I'm glad I'm not the teacher in charge.

superram · 15/12/2021 14:00

I am the teacher in charge… it’s a nightmare but we can’t cancel or I’d lose your money. I’m crossing my fingers and hoping for the best. Insurance and hotel have spare rooms if we need to isolate.

Maverick197 · 15/12/2021 14:31

My dds school ski trip for 2022 was cancelled last month. With all the Omicron chaos on the horizon I am so glad they did.

XelaM · 15/12/2021 14:33

My daughter's ski trip to France still going ahead in February as far as I know

whoopsnomore · 15/12/2021 15:49

I think the travel insurance will make these kind of trips impossibly expensive. What happens if a student has symptoms/ tests positive during the trip? How long do they isolate? Who stays with them, or does a parent fly out to be with them while the rest of the group fly home (after they have all been tested as contacts?)...

middleager · 15/12/2021 15:53

DS February trip cancelled. I'm relieved as he was in Italy as Covid unfolded there in March 2019 and they were closing off provinces there, we windered if he'd get home.

Watapalava · 15/12/2021 16:17

Schools were told to make sure they have adequate insurance in p-lace by DofE so i'll be furious if i lose any money! When the government brought in rules regarding the day 2 isolation, companies all over classed that as a 'significant change' and offered free movement/cancellations so surprised its not happened sooner.

Schools are surely at risk of being stuck abroad with kids given how many are asymptomatic. Given vax kids can still get it, there's good chance kids will test positive and get stuck abroad
