We are considering to relocate to Wickersley in Rotherham, South Yorkshire next year. There is a secondary school named Wickersley School and Sports College. From Locrating, it's an Ofsted outstanding school but in the Review section (11 responses), only 36% recommended this school and the responses are generally not so favorite. The GCSE result is top 20% but the A level is 45% bottom (which I don't know why if the GCSE result is good).

I really want to know if it is a good school, such as in terms of learning atmosphere, teachers, friendliness, etc. Your experiences or opinions on this school is much appreciated, as I have very little information on it (only little information from locrating and a few reviews).

I have no direct experience but grew up fairly locally - historically I believe it was oversubscribed so if you’re looking at in year transfers your chances of getting a place could be slim. You would definitely need to make sure you’d be happy with the surrounding schools (a very mixed bag tbh).

I know a few people who went there and it was always seen as a ‘good’ school - lots of people would move close to avoid other Rotherham schools. They were always excellent at sports - I spent 5 years being routinely battered by their netball and athletics teams. But this was all 15-20 years ago so things could have changed!

Regarding the A-level stuff - loads of local children end up going to the sixth form college (Thomas Rotherham) so this will skew the results somewhat .

Hopefully someone with more recent/direct experience will be along soon - I no longer live in the area so my comments could be wildly out of date.

Hi OP, my dd went to sixth form there after transferring from another local school. It was an excellent school and she got 2 As and an A*. Her friends also got excellent results. The staff are very helpful and friendly and dd also got a lot of pastoral help. Hope this helps.
