My DS is in Year 11 and got his mock paper results back today for English Language, he achieved a grade 7-8. DS says it’s an A, is that right?
The numbers are confusing.

Congrats to your DS, yes a 7-8 is equivalent of an A, an 8-9 would be A*. 9 is the top grade you can get now.

Roughly speaking
4 is a low C
5 a high C
6 is a B
7 is an A
8 is an A*
9 is an A* but the top of the top

And congratulations to him, he has done really well.
