Super strict schools like the Swan in Oxford?

We went to see the swan school in Oxford and came away fairly horrified. The no talking in the corridors or halls seemed fairly extreme. The punishment for talking to a friend was isolation which seemed harsh and not in the best interest of the child? I do understand trying minimise disruption but at what cost? They don't stop emotionally developing at 11. Surely all those soft skills come from unstructured interactions. It seems like it would produce very brittle kids and SEN need not apply or they'd spent the entire time in isolation. I wondered what others thought of the super strict school model?

Like any school, the swan will suit some and not others.

my ds1 experiences anxiety around being disciplined - he has ASD - and would be in 24/7 state of severe anxiety by the discipline regime at the swan. Not as he wouldn’t be well behaved as his behaviour in school is impeccable but all the potentials for punishment would be a threat to him. He is currently at a school with no real behavioural issues within school - due to us being lucky to have found an independent that works for him - but they don’t need the swan’s level of excessive restriction to achieve it and the school is nurturing of all their pupils and their differences. I recognise that is not the case in many schools!

we live locally to the swan and I have visited - it wasn’t for us but I can see why some choose it over other local comprehensives.
