Feathers Ball London

There has been lots of chat in school about the Feathers charity ball in London for year groups 9-10. My DD wants to go with several friends but I'd not heard of it so looking for personal experience of the ball.
Is it well organised / supervised? Is it social suicide if you don't go?
Do they really stay at the club until 1am or would they want to leave earlier? I didn't expect to be doing 1am pick ups for several years yet!

Are these still going? I'm in my late thirties and went when I was a young teenager! When we used to go, it was more about snogging boys than anything else. They were very strict on no booze (although some people would drink before). The parents in our class used to organise a rota for lifts home at the end of the night. Given how much time we spent hanging out in random parks at that age, it was a lot safer to be in a bar or club.

Out of interest is this a private school?

I remember London based girls at my posh boarding school going in the 70s...

Wallywobbles · 19/11/2021 13:54

God I'm fifty and I went.

Yes I remember this

Wow can’t believe they are still going - lots went from my indie many moons ago. Great way to learn about boys booze and the rest!

Jibberty · 19/11/2021 16:44

I can’t believe they’re still going. One giant snogfest back in the mid 80s 😂. I think the last one I went to was about 1986 and at almost 16 I was definitely one of the older ones. Bloody hell, we had such a laugh.

Hogwarts21 · 19/11/2021 17:50

46 now and went with a friend from school when we were 14! Blast from the past :D

Can't believe it's still going!

Dresses are quite a bit shorter than I remember but not much else has changed!

I remember being gutted my mum said no. But I did go to a Valentine one where we collected hearts every time we snogged someone. (1989 I think!) Happy memories.

WholeClassKeptIn · 19/11/2021 17:57

How much are the tickets? Is it just private schools that go?

TeenMinusTests · 19/11/2021 18:24

Just been on the website, Christmas 2021 tickets are all sold out, and I couldn't find what price they were.
Shall we guess?
My guess is £150/£200.

thekidstaxi · 19/11/2021 19:41

Thanks for the replies everyone!
Yes DD is at a private school & I think the tickets are pricy. It sounds like people had fun and glad there is a strict no alcohol policy! I guess kids have to experience stuff at some point, though not sure how I feel about it being a 'snog-fest'. Confused

Blast from the past!

I’m 40, and the Feathers Ball was a rite of passage when I was a teen - it was always at the Hammersmith Palais but I think that’s been converted into flats now..!

Even back in the day, it was very well policed. Bags searched for booze on the way in, and bouncers going around stopping the snogging getting out of control

The absolute high point was me and my best mate being photographed by Bystander (although I was just a blur in the background)
I don’t think there has ever been a more dog eared magazine than that..! I dined out on it for years

SW1amp · 19/11/2021 19:48

Does anyone else remember to Capital VIP balls?!
They were slightly less classy than the Feathers but ran every school holiday and always had a PA from a crappy pop act

We had a ranking system for which schools produced the best snogging boys, so all chatting up conversations would start ‘which school do you go to..?’

I wonder how many of us were at the same parties 😂

@mynameiscalypso

I’m not sure I can put into words how grateful I am that camera phones didn’t exist on those days, but it would be amazing to find any old pics of those balls and spot faces..!

Tuliptulip · 20/11/2021 00:26

My DS has a ticket for the Feathers this year - I agree that I remember attending in the mid 1980s and can’t quite believe that we have come full circle Grin
For those interested, a ticket this year cost £65.

TeenMinusTests · 20/11/2021 06:46

Less than I thought. Happily surprised.

Motorcyclemptiness · 20/11/2021 08:02

Tickets sold out the day they were issued I'm afraid as people on their contact list grab them first.
Does make me feel about 110 years old tho, seeing DC going! Anyone else old enough to remember the Gatecrasher ones, though their founder's career progression is a bit startling if you google him..

BettyHetty · 07/11/2023 08:31

i my name is Betty and i remember being there to i was just wondering if anyone was selling tickets as my daughter will not leave me alone because she wants to go so badly!
