Working at Grade C

Hi all , hoping someone can advise me on whether it is fine at this stage of 1st year A level , to be working at level C ? Excuse my ignorance but I was not educated to this level so I am not sure what these updates actually mean ? Any advice welcome

It depends on what the school means by that.

If they mean - if they sat the A level now they would get a C (a pointless assessment IMHO) then that would be fine, obvs. However tbh I don't think anyone is likely to be able to gain a C after a couple of months with so little content covered.

So more likely is - they are working at a level that suggests they will achieve a C at the end of year 13. This may be fine or it may not, depending on their ability and ambitions. If they want to be a doctor, well not really. Although there is plenty of time to improve and work hard and end up with a better grade.

But you need to ask the school really.

Despite what you may read on MN and in the newspapers in August, not every A level student gains 3 x A* grades. My DD got BCC which was lower than she had hoped (for various reasons) but she is at uni and doing well.

So CCC could lead to a uni degree for sure, or perhaps an A level apprenticeship, or actual work, why not?

What is the subject and what do they plan to do in the future?

Thank you, the grade refers to' the current working at' grade so I think you are right in that he is working at that level now but if he applied himself he has time to improve. Subjects are biology and history, he doesn't know what he wants to do, probably a history degree if he qualified

And it also depends what his targets are. If it’s an A* then that’s something to consider. If it’s a D, happy days…

I agree with everything clary said - my DD1 got BCC too and is on the edge of a First now from a very good uni.
