My 11 yr old son was offered to attend a school trip visit to old Trafford ,meet a player then go to watch Man City play in Champions league . We were told first come first served & by paying our deposit before 5th Nov are child’s place would be secured.Paid deposit & have receipt in sons name .As you can imagine to any football loving kids this was a exciting experience to look forward to . No correspondence from school after other than to say they had more tickets now available ( so irrelevant to myself as I’d secured a place ) Forward on to yesterday when the school send out a e -Mail to 16 pupils saying “ sorry you weren’t picked ,please collect refund from the office “ kids in class didn’t read e mails they were then taken to a hall with 120 pupils & told them school had taken more deposits than they should .Then they read out 16 kids names my son included in front of all the others pupils & said they had earlier in private pulled names from a hat and the 16 names they had read out would no longer be given their ticket as it was going to another pupil now ,this they had decided was fair 😡😡😡 so many issues & questions ,firstly did they have the right to do that & morally so wrong on so many levels . Such cruel treatment from the school which promises to safe guard our children’s mental health & well being . I can’t believe educated people think any of this is acceptable ,those 16 outed kids have been wronged on so many levels & as a parent I would like to know who is accountable & what rights us parents have on tickets we secured legally originally ,can the school just decide to give them away without our permission !!! Sorry so long but any help or info greatly appreciated as to how we can take action for the kids & to get them back their places they were guaranteed, as it’s heartbreaking to see how disappointed ,upset & humilated they all are 💔

Sorry to hear about this OP - it sounds as though the school have handled this really badly. But as they're organising the trip they are able to run it as they wish and allocate places as they wish. I don't think anything you can do to "get them back their places". I would just be having a long chat with your DS about how this was badly handled, and planning a nice day out for him (with some of the other 16 kids affected) as an alternative.

Similar happened with a trip in my DC previous school. Parents went ballistic. School secured more places
