A Level Art - Teachers & Examiners - is tracing allowed??

Hi all. I would appreciate some guidance from experienced Art teachers and/or examiners please (asking for a friend!).

If a pupil is taking A Level art (first year of sixth form), are they allowed to trace images and use them in their final assessments? The girl in question has been told to take or find a photograph, put some acetate over it and scribe over the image to make an etching, which will later be printed.

Obviously, the final piece will look very "well drawn" and professional, but surely this is too easy, and doesn't demonstrate much skill? The teacher in question is very inexperienced., and my friend is worried about repercussions.

The exam board used is OCR

It s still art, in fact we were asked to do photocopies of photos to do lithographs… at university!

Good art is not limited to drawing well since photography was invented! Grin

I know art is not just limited to drawing Grin
But this is a specific question about an examination, and what parameters the exam board has set.
