Exam dates 2022

Have been wondering about exam dates for next year, partly idle curiosity, partly thinking about holiday timing. I found this link which talks about EdExcel exams finishing at the end of June but will the other exam boards follow suit?

First time with a child doing GCSEs so am not sure what to expect and whether there might be later dates next year because of the impact of the pandemic. What do others know or think?

The exam dates usually (almost always) are set across all boards - so everyone will be doing maths GCSE on xx date. This is to avoid clashes as most schools do different boards for different subjects.

So for example, AQA's (provisional) timetable lists German reading and listening papers on 23 May; Edexcel says the same, so if you were doing AQA German but Edexcel maths there would not be a clash. There has also been a "contingency" date since the Grenfell fire where exams could still be held. DS2 had his last GCSE on about 14 June but IIRC the contingency was 26 June (2019).

However, if I were you, I would hold off from booking a holiday just yet, as this is all provisional, much more than usually, and I have certainly heard talk of exams being pushed back. They wouldn't normally be subject to change by this stage but who knows this year.

Thanks. The other key date I realise is the prom, and I've no idea when that is either. However when talking to a colleague earlier she said her school have advised that their exams will be complete by the end of June.

Reactivating this - I now know dates for all GCSE exams and the prom but can any parent or teacher who has been through year 11 advise on whether we are ok to book a holiday technically in term time but after exams and prom for a year 11 student? Had assumed that this was fine but a colleague has mentioned her school 'not allowing' this ..

We did. You just need to be a little careful if there are sixth form tasters or induction days or opportunities to volunteer for end of year events like sports day for rest of school.

I went away with DD after A levels in early July; and in fact (as of course A levels are dufferent) ds2 went away with his dad on a football thing the same week, after finishing GCSEs.

But yy check with the school to work around possible taster days.
