Any mums have girls at this school and if so can any of you share your experience ? would you recommend it ?
Its Ofsted Good but I know that 'Beaverwood' its former name had some issues. They do seem to talk a good story so just wondering if anybody can give me any insight.
thanks very much

@juneyb thanks so much for your response ! how does it work with grammar stream do they do some lessons all together and some are streamed or mix form groups or a mixture ? The thing that worried me most was old reports of bullying but I’m wondering if this is now dealt with much better as I know it happens everywhere. Great to hear your DD is doing well. Thanks so much x

@MyDearMrsCrawley They get tested before they start and they are streamed accordingly into Grammar / non Grammar so its done in 'learning groups'. Some girls can be moved into certain lessons in the Grammar stream if it turns out that they are good at it / have an aptitude but were put in the non Grammar stream to start with. So you stay in the alloted learning group unless you get moved to different group for different subjects. So most are in Grammar or non Grammar and some will be in the Grammar stream for some subjects only so a mix of both. I am sure that bullying goes on but we have not seen it so far, i'm hoping that continues !

Thanks so much @juneyb
if anyone else has any input on the school it would be great to hear
we’ve driven past and the site is lovely and dd likes the uniform so that’s a plus ! Does anyone know if there is options there for girls to take more like 9 or 10 GCSEs? Many thanks

My daughter is in the Y9 grammar stream and it's pretty much as described on the school website. There are 2 grammar stream forms in her year and they are taught together in that form group. They are expected to do additional project-type work and extra curricular activities.

Just bumping this thread again as went to the open evening last week and was pleasantly surprised. Just wondering how those with girls currently there are finding it really.

My daughter is now in year 8 and is still loving it, I dont have anything bad to say about it at this point. This school is getting very popular now, i know that its getting more difficult to get a place at CHSFG. My daughter was at the open evening last week taking parents around, there is a good mix of hard work and enrichment days / reward. They are off to Leeds castle on Friday this week for good behaviour in year 7. I think the school really works for my DD as its not huge, and she loves sport and creative subjects which they seem to have a good offerring as well as quite a few extra curricular clubs. I cant speak to the number of GCSE's etc they are able to do as she is only year 8 but I was impressed with the offering when I went for the open day 2 years ago. The teachers seem very nice from the 2 parents evenings i've been to, I havent heard of any bullying etc so far. Hope that helps.

Thanks so much juneyb glad your daughter is happy.

CHSFG is now under the umbrella trust for Bullers. They are 'sharing' teachers and enhancing learning experience across the three secondaries. It can only be a good thing for CHSFG which still suffers reputationally from its Beaverwood days.

HerderofDragons · 03/10/2023 07:23

Thanks I had not twigged this about Bullers. I confess I do not get the Bullers love. My son was there for a bit but we moved him when a place came up elsewhere. Defo not our cup of tea. I was really impressed by how confident all the girls at CHSFG were at the open day and I met lots. They all seemed very comfortable in themselves. Also really liked the headmistresses speech (normally these things are so meh).

Hi, I'm compiling my list of schools too. We were also very impressed with Chis Girls for the reasons you gave. I have a friend whose daughter is there in year 8 and loves it. She's in the grammar stream.
It's my daughter's top choice!

Hi @juneyb I am currently a student at this school and I'm extremely pleased with all my classes and (most) of my teachers. there are some girls, especially in older years that are not the best role models for new year 7 joining the school. But other then that, I think the school teaches very well and has a overall good impact of young girls.
