Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any experience/views about the following schools please?

John Lyon Harrow

Merchant Taylors Northwood

St Margaret's School, Bushey

Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Haberdashers and Merchant Taylors are excellent as is St Albans but while they offer lots of extra curricula opportunities they are very academic. If you are considering sitting DC for any of these they will need to be tutored. John Lyon isn’t quite in the same league.

Haberdashers Boys is great for quirky high achievers
Merchant Taylors is excellent and v sports heavy
John Lyon is not so academic but nurturing and kind
St Margaret's School has only just started taking boys

Others to consider ? Aldenham, St Albans

Habs Boys and MT are superb schools.

XelaM · 18/10/2021 17:46

However, if your son can pass Habs Boys/MT, would you not consider QE Boys? It's the same level, but free

G121 · 18/10/2021 19:16

I don't know if MTS and Habs would be too much for my son.

He is clever, but quiet and not very confident. I feel he may benefit from a more nurturing environment, which is not too competitive.

Thank you for your feedback

I have sons at MTS. It has good sports facilities but also caters well for the quieter, non sporty child. It's not an academic hothouse and there is a range of abilities.

Based on friends with kids at other schools (and our experiences)... Habs very good on academics, not so hot on sport, quite a competitive ethos.

JLS more middle of the road academically than Habs and MTS but I know parents whose boys really like it there.

That's really helpful. Thank you.
