We just got Holland Park art aptitude result yesterday. They said my DS didn’t attend the art aptitude test, which is obviously a mistake, all families was sending him to the test on the day, and I even got a parking tickets on the day near school as well. Does anyone had same situation like this? My DS is a very artistic boy, and he keen to pass the test and learned to do sketches since one year ago. He got very upset after hear the email.:(

So your DS definitely did attend? Have you alerted them to the mistake? I recognise it’s the weekend so May not get a response yet.

Get the email from the Registrar, and signed by MR DAVID CHAPPELL, the ACADEMY HEAD, did email them back with all the photos we took when we attended the test, waiting for their response now. But My DS was really upset as he prepared for a year for the test.

If you have photos to prove it, then I think you should be OK. It sounds as if his form/file etc has got mixed up with someone elses.

Was there registration on the day?

My DS said there was no one to register them in the test, just let them to sit down the floor and draw. Massive students sitting in the test, and Maybe he was mixed by other students mistakenly.

I assume there was somewhere to register or a process and he missed it somehow. Wait and see what they respond with now you have sent proof

there must have been something, some way of recording which is your work and handing it in?

Did he miss that?

It has no process of registrations before or after test, DS was asking to clip the two drawings and then put in a box, that’s all. And his name and school were written on the back of the drawings.

Just got school's email, said it is an admin error, and my DS achieved a score of 20 or more, but no spicific score and ranking.

My daughter also got a score of 20 or more...but the email from the school does NOT give any info on the actual ranking/score. Does this mean she did not make it into the top 24 I wonder, or does it mean they don't tell anyone even if they made it into the top 24?

if anyone has received a message from the school specifying that their child did get into the top 24, can you please let me know? I am really only going to put HP down if I think my DD has a real chance to get through the Art route...

My understanding was that it depends on the Banding Test results as well. So if there are 4 Bands, the top 6 scorers in each band will get offers on National Offer Day. Everyone else stays on the waiting list but will get offered places as other people with higher scores within their bands decide to go to other schools.

@JazzBand - thanks for the reply. I must admit that is what I also thought. But I re-checked the admission criteria as published on the school website and it says there are a total of 240 places in Y7, with 54 in each of the 4 bands. This makes a total of 216, which adds to 240 only when considering the 24 places for the art aptitude...so based on that. it seems art aptitude places are assigned regardless of the banding? I contacted the school of course to ask if they could also share the ranking results but I suspect they will not disclose this info...although I am not sure why they cannot be more transparent on this matter.

Interesting. From observing past years, the rankings have not been transparent at all. But there also seems to be quite a bit of movement in the art aptitude waiting list, so I wouldn't necessarily write it off if you don't feel confident but really like the school.

To “pass” the first stage of the art entry, your child needs to score higher than 20 out of a possible 40 marks. Typically around 10% of the children who sit the art exam get a letter telling them that they have got through this stage.

The school never sends out your rank within the possible 24 places available, but when you get your offer letter for secondary schools, if they are in the top 24 and you have put Holland Park on your list, then you will get an offer.

The art places are independent of which band they are placed in.

Hope that helps!

...you are aware of the state the school is in at the moment? The very serious allegations of bullying and abuse of both teachers and children by the leadership team (including Mr. Chappell)? The fact that the head Mr Hall has had to say he will resign retire? I am not surprised that their admissions are currently a mess.

Do you have an alternative school locally which you would send your child to jobseeker?

Hi Jasmine, congratulations on your son receiving an offer for Holland Park! My daughter is looking to apply as well and I was wondering if you have any tips for the drawing exam and preparation?

Seriously???
Have you no idea what has been going on at Holland Park?

Holland Park school should be closed and investigated fully. No child of mine would be sent to such a toxic environment.

Thank you Evain! We are just looked at the other post in the mumsnet of the task for previous year, and training my DS by ourselves, as we both designers, know about the sketch technical. My DS basically drawing a sketch every single day before the exam, the main task he learned is to draw a hand. as hand is the most difficult object in life. I will suggest to let your daughter learn from a professional teacher, to understand the sketch skill, that will make different.
