Hi,
Question for those with knowledge of South Hampstead High - do you know if any/many girls come from the Islington/Hackney area? I imagine there’s a big Hampstead/Highgate contingent, but wondering how many come in from further afield. Also does anyone know approx what % come from state schools?
Many thanks 😊

Yes definitely a good number travelling from Islington. I think the Junior school has more families local to the school but the Senior school attracts girls from all over. Eg. Islington, Archway, Tufnell Park, Golders Green, Brondesbury, Harrow, Finchley, Cricklewood, HGS, Maida Vale etc
I don't know the state school stats but I heard that the current year 7 had a big increase in girls coming from state primaries. My daughter is friends with lots of girls who came from state primaries (and lots who didn't too!). It is a really great school and the staff work incredibly hard to ensure all the girls settle in well. They visited the girls in their primary schools and chatted to them and their primary teachers to get a good understanding of each girl before she started. They also asked specifically about the girls' experiences during the covid pandemic and the school provision they had and they realise that there was a huge variation in what different primaries could offer during the lockdowns.

Thanks so much for that - really helpful : ) I’m pleased to hear there seem to be a fair number coming from state primaries, and from Islington. We are in Stoke Newington and would be nice to know that DD might have some slightly more local friends.
I know the school myself from many years ago, but have only just thought I could consider it for DD (a financial offer coming from the extended family!) It’s added a whole new layer of stress to the secondary school application process. DD is very bright but has had no tutoring, so is it possible to cram for the common entrance pre-test SHHS are doing in 6 weeks… Hmm we shall see. There are very few private options near Stoke Newington. Fortunately I think DD wants to go to the local comp with her friends anyway, so if she doesn’t get into SHHS, it won’t be the end of her world. But I know it is a fantastic school.
