SW London state secondaries that offer further maths GCSE?

Hi. Anyone know any state secondaries in SW London that offer Further Maths GCSE? If so, is it offered as part of the normal timetabled curriculum, or as an after school extra-curricula activity?

Richard Reynolds in Twickenham

IMO it's a pretty niche/unecessary subject, by no means necessary to study maths at A level/university/whatever.

Not all that many places do it. If your DC are currently young it's not impossible that a school which does it now might have stopped doing it by the time they'd be old enough to sit it.

The old practice of getting kids to take GCSE maths at the end of year 10 and then something harder in year 11 is something that goes in and out of fashion and I think it's currently more out than in - a number of years ago I think maybe all of the Sutton boys' grammars used to do it and I think now certainly Wilsons and maybe Wallington don't [very happy to be corrected on this score]?

Anyway, at least one of the Sutton boys' grammars do it.

@cricketjoys85 are you sure about St Richard Reynolds? I can't find any mention of it on their curriculum pages - I can only see Foundation and Higher GCSE Maths, not GCSE Further Maths. Can you point me to a link if I've missed it?

Tiffin Girls school offer it but I think they take all GCSEs at same time, just cover the regular GCSE maths curriculum in 1 year and then further maths (or whatever it’s called) in second year, but take exams at the same time.

My friend's dd got a gcse in further maths this summer from RR. You could ask them directly.

Thanks cricketjoy, I managed to find something about it in one of their old options evening docs.

I would think most of the good comps will have all or some of the top sets siting further or additional maths and certainly the grammar schools. Not normally an open offer more of an invite/ discussion as far as I know. Where in SW London are you?

It's great if you're planning on taking maths A Level. I am of the age that I had to take my maths GCSE and my additional maths GCSE at the same time (in fact all my GCSEs at the same time).

Grey Court offer Further Maths GCSE; I believe students are invited before end Y10 and take as an additional GCSE (in addition to the standard 10). My DC is in Y10 at the school and in high maths set so expect they will take.

Lady Margaret school (lunchtime club only).

Not ‘certainly all the grammars’. My son’s used to do it for at least the top two Maths sets before the change to 1-9 but dropped it.
