11+...anxiously awaiting results

Hope it's ok to post this here. DS had his exam Saturday, and he said today how he can't stop thinking about it, and just wants to know how he did.

We've told him, it really isn't the end of the world if he doesn't pass (and he knew that already), but this is the first time he's experienced an official exam.

So just a post to see how other's DC are doing whilst awaiting results?

I don’t think my son is thinking about it much but I am! The first week was harder, we’re all busier now and it’s easier to forget about it.
When do you find out? We were told mid October but it was quicker when my elder child did it.

LittleMissGlum · 29/09/2021 15:55

Yes, I feel like it's there at the back of my mind too 😂
We should find out mid October too, I just hope if it doesn't go as he wants he isn't too disheartened.

My DC really liked the school, pupils and staff at the school they did their 11+ at. Whilst we are waiting for results we are looking at other schools in the area (all of which are closer, geographically).
Do need to check if we can go to a tour of the school in question but it doesn't seem 'worth' it until we know exam results.
DC doesn't seem too fussed as other schools we have seen have been pretty high calibre.

annaseal · 01/10/2021 12:14

2 more weeks!! Same with my DD. She cannot stop thinking about it. Hope all will be good :-)

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 01/10/2021 12:17

Good luck to all the DC waiting on their 11+ results. However, do remember that going to a grammar school is not the be-all and end-all. Plenty of high flyers do get on to achieve amazing things from comprehensive schools.

thing47 · 01/10/2021 16:57

Plenty of high flyers do get on to achieve amazing things from comprehensive schools.

And even from Secondary Moderns too Smile

Frankley · 01/10/2021 17:14

Well said, thing47. Why is there always this misunderstanding of what a Comprehensive school is, compared to a Secondary Modern.

thing47 · 01/10/2021 17:18

If you live in an area with several (or lots) of grammar schools, then the other schools aren't Comprehensives, are they? The clue is in the name really… Grin

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 01/10/2021 17:26

That's not entirely true. Sutton has just about the best performing grammars in the country (en masse - there are five of them) BUT all the other schools are comprehensives because sitting the 11+ is not a local default!

idontlikealdi · 01/10/2021 20:33

We haven't done the test but the primary today said that less than one in ten will actually get a place. It's serious competition.

Sweetsweetsoul · 04/10/2021 18:23

Still waiting anxiously here. I forget in the day then wake up in a panic in the night! Son is fine luckily. When do you all find out? We were told mid October - desperate to be put out of my misery!

LittleMissGlum · 04/10/2021 22:30

Hopefully it goes well for everyone Smile

We've attended an open evening for another school . It was nice to see DS like what he saw there, and knowing he's happy either way is reassuring. I definitely agree grammar schools aren't be all end all.

We find out Monday I believe, fingers crossed 🤞

Waiting here too. For one set of second stage results and one to see if we made the second stage. Trying to keep busy any not think about it. We’ve also been going to other local open days and sussing out which schools we like in case dc doesn’t make it through. Mainly just trying to stay very chilled. It’s hard though. 🤞🤞🤞 good luck everyone.

LittleMissGlum · 05/10/2021 15:52

@Lockdowndramaqueen well done for getting through to second stage.
We are north west, so don't have to worry about second stage and so on, but honestly I'd be pulling my hair out with that much pressure 😬

Drywhitefruitycidergin · 05/10/2021 15:58

Dd1 has only mentioned it in the context of we won't make final decision on order of schools on application form until we get results. Results due 15th - let's see.
We've been to see the grammars and non-grammars on open evenings over the past couple of weeks to get a feel for them.

puffyisgood · 05/10/2021 16:12

My DS did Sutton. I don't think it needs to be all that big a deal. It's not applicable to us because we're out of catchment for local comps, but the top sets of some of the Sutton comps are very good, sending people to good universities including the odd Oxbridge etc.

My DS is very good at reasoning type questions/multiple choice answers etc and only pretty good at writing so, whilst we probably expect to get a Wallington place, we probably don't expect to get a Wilsons/SGS place, and that's pretty OK.

Lockdowndramaqueen · 05/10/2021 17:13

Completely agree @puffyisgood - it’s the right school for the right child. I have one at a comp who is thriving and wouldn’t have wanted to do the 11+ and one who does want to do the 11+ so hoping for them they make it through.

Thanks @LittleMissGlum - I must admit the 2 stages tests is quite a lot to deal with because the kids have to stay calm and focused for longer. Mine has lost interest already 😂😂😂 oh well.

DD3 is adopted and doing Essex 11+ she needs about 303 the average score for the priority area, needed over the last five years. The results for Essex are due on the 15th of October I will be absolutely overjoyed if DD 3 can join DD2 year 10 at the same school in September.

DD3 was placed in care from 6 months old before I adopted her at 2 years old. DD3s birth mother is /was a serial drug user, dealer, and Alcoholic living around Liverpool. On the day DD3 was taken into care by the Social Worker concerned , the Social worker found DD3s birth mother on the floor injecting herself with Heroin. Thus, DD3 has been diagnosed with Foetal Alcohol Syndrome, despite this and the substantial life injuries caused by Foetal Alcohol Syndrome. she is in with a 50/50 chance of passing the CSSE Essex 11+ .

DD3 is also a talented tennis player, who has the potential to be of County standard. The will, determination and pure guts of my little lady are quite extraordinary. Therefore , whatever the outcome is on the 15th of October, DD3 is an inspiration and legend to all children faced with such appalling starts.

I have just been sitting her tonight thinking I have to post this about DD3.

peewitsandy · 05/10/2021 21:49

Next September, DD2 will be year11 ..

Lockdowndramaqueen · 05/10/2021 21:50

Wow @peewitsandy - what a life story for one so young - she sounds amazing. I am sure we all 🤞🤞🤞 that she passes - good luck

peewitsandy · 05/10/2021 21:58

Thank you Lockdownqueen: I have posted about DD3 before and my EXs family wanting to send her to boarding school. The answers on here being to absolutely not consider it due to DD3s particular circumstances.
However, this is the first time I have let on about why DD3 was taken in to care and her lifelong disabilities.

annaseal · 05/10/2021 22:45

@peewitsandy both you and your DD is special! I know only good thing happens to good people. We are human, we are resilient, we are determined. No way your and your DDs effort will go in vein. Good luck to her!

Sweetsweetsoul · 12/10/2021 13:11

Still waiting! Back to exam nerves having been calm for a week or two.

LittleMissGlum · 12/10/2021 13:16

@peewitsandy you and your DD sound like wonderful people, and I'm hoping she passes Smile

Our wait it over! I'm absolutely elated DS got in...it has been an anxious wait.

Hope everyone else's children have done well.
We had another local school as an option, which really helped ease the nerves as DS liked what he saw and knows someone else applying there too.
