Hi, my family are now living in Hong Kong and planning to move to Derby next year. I have 2 boys, 12 & 8 years old on Sep 2022.
I heard that many schools are oversubscribed in Derbyshire, therefore we cannot locate a suitable place for our new home.
Anyone have any kindly advice for the places below:
Littleover
Chellaston
Etwall
Hilton
Castle Donington

Hi, lots of good schools in Derby area. The best will be full but you may get lucky. Key thing is to move to catchment of the school you like. Your younger child should then get a space.
Some to consider:
Ecclesbourne in Duffield - excellent school, high attaining, make sure you are in catchment tho (Duffield, surrounding villages but not Milford/Belper, some bits of Derbybitself)
Littleover CS - another excellent school, very good results and atmosphere
Woodlands, newish head, good facilities inc swimming pool, catchment includes city centre
Landau Forte, another good school, no catchment, prioritises certain inner city areas, in city centre so easy to get to, good attainment
Chellaston - bit of a hot house reputation and poor ofsted recently ish, but gets good results
West park in Spondon Aldo worth a look.

I would avoid: merrill (new name now I think), Noel-Baker, Derby Moor. Murray Park ok but not the best.

Some of these schools have no sixth form

Hilton feeds to John Port in Etwall, vvv big school, don't know much about it tho.

Castle D is in Leics so system is different, no knowledge of school there tho.

Also a popular school is George Spencer on the A52.

Thank you very much for your kindly advices. It is so useful for us.
These schools are great. Unfortunately, i don't think we are affordable to live nearby the city centre.
Highfields, Littleover is my priority.
Etwall and Hilton are great too. Seems to have bigger chance for a school places.

Do you particularly need to be in that area of Derby? If so, Littleover CS catchment is the best shout. Heatherton Village is nice. Littleover is not super cheap tho. Are you buying? What sort of budget?

Highfields is the new estate isn't it - check but i imagine it is LCS catchment.

Etwall and Hilton both feed into the 2000 place John Port so I imagine places come up more often, as it's so big

I have family who have had 3 kids go through Chellaston. Their view is it is not as good as it used to be and are glad their youngest has left.
