Any hope for gap years in 2022-23?

My DS is pretty certain he wants to take a year out after this school year - obviously I want to make sure he spends it productively and not faffing around aimlessly. Anyone's DC feeling the same and if so, what plans do they have/would like to have for the next school year?

Looking at Heathfield Ascot for my daughter. Would love to hear if anyone has any recent experience of this school?

I posted the above OP and read every gap year thread I could find on here but to not much avail tbh. I looked up interrailing costs and looked up volunteering abroad. My DD is still barmaiding and little else. They seem to be I'm limbo right now. I just want their mental health to be better tbh so am not nagging from over here. If necessary, they will visit a few more capital cities and put travelling down or travelling in the UK, as they do not live here.
But if yours is doing next year, they could apply for camp America or camp Canada for next Summer, stay on to travel a bit, then apply for ski season and take it from there.
Mine did not plan theirs so you lose momentum, motivation and routine. It has been 4 months. I am sitting on my hands.

I did a gap year abroad teaching English as a foreign language with Project Trust, it was a long time ago now but was one of the best years of my life, looks good on a CV too but takes a lot of forward planning and fundraising etc - worth looking at that charity if they want to travel - obviously COVID permitting!

Applications are open for Camp America and they are fairly confident it will go ahead - most camps are asking people to be double jabbed though.

Isn't this a job for the teenager who wants a gap year? I mean, be supportive, but ultimately the point of a gap year is to improve independence and that starts with them planning it.

What do they want to do? Don't you just buy a ticket to some where and backpack round or look up volunteering schemes/camp America/ tefl courses and apply?
