How is your school coping with Covid?

Just that really. Northwest here. DC Y11, so we have a vested interest in what's happening with GCSEs next year.

We've had a few cases in our year, but I have heard that other schools just out of our area are back to mask wearing and distancing (not heard of any bubbles being reintroduced yet though). Is everyone else doing OK?

Masks at all times inside at my kids secondary and when one of my daughters was positive with covid I was encouraged to keep the other one (negative pcr) at home too with the school offering online lessons for ten days (although they couldn't officially ask me to keep her off it was strongly hinted at)
Our kids have been back a few weeks and loads of cases

lovescats3 · 23/09/2021 14:22

Year 11 child- email from school yesterday re outbreak now will be surge testing in school, now have to wear masks when moving around school

Jigsawprison · 23/09/2021 15:14

Y13 - heard nothing, so hoping no news is good news. However in June it ripped through y10-13.
Y8 - been told lower years have lots of cases and rising daily, it just seems like waiting for the inevitable of further restrictions /rules within school.

lljkk · 23/09/2021 16:00

No info that there are any cases.
Not my business to know about any cases.
PTA has lots of provisional activities planned.
DS is very happy to be back to F2F learning.
They are still in bubble groups (same kids in most classes), but he seems to be ok about that, doing ok socially.

I was in the building 2 days ago for some volunteering; lovely to see human faces!

CookPassBabtridge · 23/09/2021 16:02

There's been 2 cases in primary in the last week, the child is kept at home but all close contacts (both at home or classmates etc) carry on as normal.

CookPassBabtridge · 23/09/2021 16:02

Oops just seen the topic... ignore me Grin

Bookmarket · 23/09/2021 16:05

At least 1/3 of Y11 out. No idea how many have a positive pcr. Some getting negative pcrs so a cold virus is going round too and parents are keeping kids off just in case.

LadyDanburysHat · 23/09/2021 16:10

We are in Scotland where masks are still mandatory indoors at all times. DC are not being sent home unless contacted by track and trace. Although it seems that a lot are being contacted. DS2 had only 4 kids in one lesson last week.

pappajonessecretchild · 23/09/2021 18:36

yr 11 badly hit, so rest of school back to masks and wearing pe kit. a primary near by is back to bubbles. this is south east. yr 11 have been asked to do daily LFT tests. I had thought it ripped thru the school last term, my DS only did 3 school days in july with self isolating but now everyone is in unless positive.

MossyLure · 23/09/2021 18:39

SE secondary here and it seems to be roaring through, although it seems to be very hush hush

Shieldingending · 23/09/2021 18:56

Northwest secondary here, we have had no information from school about cases all I know from my DC that there are rather a lot!

Silkiescatz · 23/09/2021 20:52

Y11 and Y10 here, Y11 and us already have back to school covid after previously always avoiding it. Quite ill with it. Going down like flies in y11 in both schools though only one giving numbers. The vaccine is starting end September at one school though lots wont be eligible as 28 day gap between covid and vaccine. Know more kids with covid atm than without, not sure how many parents are getting it. We have and both very ill but late 40s with asthma and DH mid 50s. Dd was ill for 1.5 weeks, in bed that time but able to do school work. Ds has escaped so far. Not the 3 listed testable symptoms initially and lfts all negative.

Takingabreakagain · 23/09/2021 21:02

DD is year 11. She has a few with the general back-to-school cold but no covid as far as she's aware. I think so many have already had it there can't be many left now. No masks, bubbles or any restrictions at all.
School seems to be just getting on with things as normal as possible with open evening last week and a yr 11 information evening next week both in person.

PileOfBooks · 23/09/2021 21:30

It feels like a strange parrallell universe. Apparently several classes in the secondary have a large number off. A few cases in the infants and juniors...

Yet open evenings all going ahead and very busy etc.

Stokey · 23/09/2021 21:54

No masks but seem to be quite a few cases throughout the school. They're encouraging regular LTFs, and isolate until you get a negative PCR if you're a close contact.

WhiskeyNeverStartsToTasteNice · 23/09/2021 23:07

South east here. All we've been told is "there have been some positive Covid cases in the school this term". No details on how many, which year groups. Wouldn't be surprised if masks, bubbles etc are reintroduced at some point.

Eatenpig · 23/09/2021 23:34

No cases mentioned recently

lljkk · 24/09/2021 15:38

So much isn't normal in DC's education:

Secondary Open Evening is proceeding in person, yes
Parents evenings: all online
Staff training: mix online & in person

Uni lectures: mostly recorded with some in person
Uni DD is at: masks still mandated at all times on campus

ONS has a "heat map" for cases by age band. Infection prevalence in age < 20 yrs old went down after schools went back in England. Will be interesting to see what the data are soon.

BarefootHippieChick · 24/09/2021 15:42

I haven't heard of any cases in dc large secondary, so if there are any it's probably not many. A few off ill with general colds though. School is basically back to normal. To be fair, over the last 6 months covid ripped through the school with whole classes and teachers off at some points, so that may be why things are relatively normal for now.

Silkiescatz · 24/09/2021 15:49

We've just been sent an e-mail saying the vaccines for 12-15s day is cancelled for now due to lack of staff and cannot give a new date atm.

DD has just had covid so after 5 pages of filling in form just said error so think she wasn't eligible for that one anyway.

School newsletter doesn't mention any covid cases at DDs school but I know DD and lots of her friends are out with covid. Seems to be quite an issue in y11s, and the 16 parties aren't going to help. Other school is giving numbers and its very y11 heavy in cases, about 90% of cases in a y7-y11 school, previously almost no covid in there.

Parents evening online, open days in person, 6th form session for parents in person.

KMBM107 · 24/09/2021 20:54

Year 13 sixth form college - cases into double figures. Have just spent the week on teams. Due back next week.
