Hi , please don’t judge me , we’ve been given a chance to go away this Xmas we have one child in year 11 so she has her mocks after Christmas
Would it be a bad idea to have a week away ?when maybe she should be revising

I am in two minds she’s the sort of child that isn’t really motivated as much as we support & encourage her & has to work at it to obtain reasonable grades
I’m just asking to see what other views are

I would just be mindful, given the last two years, that January mocks could end up contributing to their final grades. Hopefully not but we don’t yet know how the winter is going to pan out Covid wise. It might be advisable to put all her efforts into the mocks. Personally I would not have gone away for a whole week of the Christmas hols I’m afraid.

I'm with @Sunshine2007. I think your DD needs to "bank" as many grades as she can while she can.

If you're going to be going over the actual Christmas period she's not that likely to do a lot of work Xmas Eve, Xmas Day, Boxing Day maybe the day after etc anyway. So you could argue better to have a good rest and some fun, then come back and buckle down to revision as soon as you get home.

I've already had my DD "negotiating" what time off she'll get over Christmas - like yours, she will have mocks in January. We have the added dilemma that she will turn 16 during the holidays. We've agreed 3 days - Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and her birthday. Apart from that she's planning (I think) on revising most of the time.

We had a Christmas trip planned last year which, of course, got cancelled. It would be lovely to do it this year instead, but I agree with everyone that mocks could be vital for your child's final grades, IF the exams are cancelled. Can you postpone the trip for 12 months?
