Hi all,

We recently moved to UK and unfortunately my son missed writing 11+ exams. Now he has got into non grammar school for year 7.

I still want to try for grammar school for year 8. How can I do it? Is there any exams or preparations that needs to be done? Any study materials to be purchased online? I have called up the individual grammar schools near by and they have advised for the CAT test which happens sometime in September 2022. How should he prepare?

I need help here.. kindly share your thoughts.

Regards,
PP

Hello,

My understanding is that CATS are cognitive ability assessments which in theory should test a person's innate understanding and intelligence. However, you can buy VR (verbal reasoning) and NVR (non verbal reasoning) books which will get your son used to the types of questions and working under time restrictions.

Good luck!

CAT4 tests are standard exams used mostly for independent schools.
Grammar schools tend to manage their own exam process (at 11+) , with an intake at yr 7. Places in uppper years are often few and far between (based on students leaving). Have you checked the school policy & success on accepting applications in subsequent years?
