Repeating Year 11

My child has an 'Educational Health Care Plan', is in a mainstream high school and has just gone into Year 11. Due to missing out on so much education during lockdowns, I would like him to be able to repeat Year 11, rather than have to leave at Springbank next year.

Does anyone know of any SEN children recently who have repeated Year 11?

Have you talked to the school about whether they would consider it? It might depend on funding, and there actually being a space in the year below.

Given that it's last year's education that may have suffered, would repeating year 10 actually make more sense (if it can be agreed quickly enough)? By Easter, everything will be focussed on revision, and would you want him to leave with the year 11s and go back to year 11 in September, or move to year 10 when study leave starts?

Repeating a year in the same school can be quite tricky - having to find new friends in a different year.

Also look into what he might do after 16. You might feel better about him leaving at the normal time if you know that there's a good course for him to move on to that will meet his needs.
