Y7 mobiles - safeguarding issue?

Hi, My daughter has just started Y7. Her school seems to have a relaxed policy on mobiles - use them in some lessons, can have them out in break time /lunch time.
At lunch today she and a friend were watching youtube videos her friend had downloaded earlier. My question is - if they can watch downloaded videos at school - surely anyone could be watching anything, including really dodgy stuff. Is this not a safeguarding issue? Surely there's no way schools can protect pupils from this?

Yep, which is why we ban all phones, students were going up to the back of the field and showing each other porn so we just have a blanket ban now.

That is a very lax mobile phone policy. I am surprised, as no secondary school I know allows this.

Thanks! I thought it seemed a rather trusting policy....

My year 7's school has the same policy. Total madness. There's a whole thing in the Guardian today about kids getting radicalised and taking up conspiricy theories... which is pretty much assured when every kid goes to school with a misinformation machine in their pocket.

I've never heard of another school doing this though. Weirdly relived that it's not just our one...
