Chelmsford County High: Extra curricular activities: please share experience

Would highly appreciate if current and past parents and students share their experience. How serious girls are in the clubs, if the school is passionate about its extra curricular activities, how good is the art department. Sorry to ask. Unable to visit the school is creating so much of vacuum on the knowledge and experience

Hiya, they’re taken very seriously. Mainly because there’s a drive to get students to best universities so ECs are important. Emphasis is on music and sport.

Extra curriculars are not important for university unless they are connected to the degree you want to take or show some skill which would be useful in a chosen career. Of course they get a mention in the personal statement but they are not why people get places at "top" universities, grades are.

Hopefully stress on Uni comes at A Level? Between year 7 and GCSE what's the school's approach on overall development? Or is it that all emphasis is on Uni even from year 7?

I was there in the 80s so my experience is not terribly relevant. However, music was very important and I would be surprised if this was any different now.

Cookerhood is right (and I speak as a former academic) that universities aren’t half as interested in your extra curricular achievements as people on here seem to assume.
However, in the same way as Oxbridge is absolutely packed full of people with grade 8 music certificates because people who are high achievers academically are more likely to be in other fields, CHS always had many girls who did a lot out of lessons as well as in and again it’s hard to imagine this being different.
How much this was encouraged by the school was quite variable and patchy but I would think the school’s outward facing communications should give you a clue- how much do things like the school Facebook page celebrate stuff other than exam results?

Facebook page honestly do not say much unfortunately. Mostly filled with posts from third party where they have tagged CCHS for being excellent venue they hired
