Manchester boys vs Stockport grammer

Does anyone have any thoughts on which of the above is ‘best’? My other half heard that the boys school is more academic and Stockport is more balanced, but i suspect that’s an isolated opinion? What do people think about one vs the other?

I went to SGS as did my siblings and DH. My DTs will be going y5/6. MUCH less academic than MGS. Used to be very good for sport but less so now - the PE department are putting less emphasis on rugby and more on football, and a much more inclusive approach. Have you looked at Cheadle Hulme? I would consider there for the DTs if it weren't for our continuing connections with the school.

Oh really, no I haven’t looked at cheadle hulme - is that fee paying too? Do you still rate Stockport… would you prefer it over mgs?

It depends on your kids to be honest - I have girls so MGS isn't an option for us. If I had very academic boys that were fairly resilient then I'd consider it. Saying that though, I wouldn't choose Manchester High or Withington Girls - I want less pressure than those schools incubate, and would prefer co-ed. Yes, Cheadle Hulme is fee paying.

MGS is widely considered to be one of the best schools in the country. It's still very competitive in terms of entry, whereas SGS, Cheadle Hulme, King's Macc are less so now - gone are the days when 600 kids sat the SGS entrance exam.

SGS gave me amazing opportunities. I did Model United Nations, and represented the UK at the European Youth Parliament which led to an actual job in Brussels. DH played rugby for England schools. It's academic but not singularly so. It's also about £1k a term cheaper than MGS. Both have Saturday sport.
