Hi.

I ordered a couple of pairs of (skinny) school trousers from next and she couldn't fasten the age 12 so I've kept the age 13. Is that normal to be 2 sizes bigger??

Ds was tiny but the skinny trousers never fitted him. Dd wore skirts at that age so I don't know for her. I'd try the normal fit ones.

It maybe depends on her shape. If she is starting to develop that may be a reason for needing bigger ones.

WreckTangled · 18/08/2021 15:33

At this age I think so. Dd is wearing 12-13 clothes despite only just turning 11. She's been going through puberty for three years though and started her periods over a year ago. Some girls the same age will be a while off that so the size difference between them can be vast. She's in the healthy range for her height and weight (had it done at school in April) so I'm not concerned.

Mine wears adult size 8.

There's a massive variation in children's sizes at this age. DS wore size 8-9 skinny fit trousers (he prefers his clothes small and tight) in y7, his friend wore age 13-14. They are both within the range of normal.

Hi thanks.
Yes she was classed as healthy weight at school too.

One of her best friends is smaller than my nine year old and the other is the same size as me 5"7 she's actually taller than her dad.

I'm glad I got her the age 13 as I definitely thought age 12 would be fine.

Age 12 is 11-12 and age 13 is 12-13 so only one size up from her age

Hellocatshome · 18/08/2021 16:35

It depends on her shape really. My 11 year old boy is small so can get away with age 9 trousers but has to have 12 to 13 t shirts etc due to his huge swimmers shoulders. If she is a healthy weight dont get fixated on the age related size guides on clothes.

I ordered my 11yo DD trousers in age 14-15 and 15-16 from M&S. We're keeping the age 15-16, the 14-15 weren't long enough. Her and her friends are all different heights and shapes.

Sizing by age means very little. Measure your child, consult published size charts for each shop/brand, and order accordingly. Buying extras to try on and return is a faff, as returning is another errand. I was 17, and still fit comfortably in my size 10 children’s blazer.

Depends on shape and weight. My ds2 (age 13) has to wear age 16-17 super skinny trousers to get the length without them floating off him at the hips and bum. Thank god for button elastic!
