AIBU? to be annoyed that DD school have sent a letter saying she is incorrectly dressed because she is wearing Ugg boots, not shoes?

Have just checked and yes, hands up, the Uniform requirements do say only black polished leather, no trainers or boots and i didnt realise. But it's winter and they aren't seen with her trousers, well, about 4 inches of material is seen.

Cant afford a new pair of leather shoes, having just bought these for dd1 and 2 . Am waiting for a phone call back from the teacher.

Tbh I can't understand why you would put them in Ugg boots. They are not exactly practical are they? What if it rains? And if it states in the prospectus what is required...

you can get black shoes quite cheaply from ASDA

mumblechum · 29/11/2007 13:34

What are ugg boots?

DarrellRivers · 29/11/2007 13:34

YABU
Rules are rules
No boots= no uggs

MerryAnnSinglemas · 29/11/2007 13:36

YABU - did you not think that they might just not fit into the uniform code when you bought them ?

bluenosesaint · 29/11/2007 13:37

YABU imho

you (presumably) knew the school uniform policy when you chose to send your dc's there.

TellusMater · 29/11/2007 13:39

Yep.

Have had a lot of these conversations with parents.

Slouchy · 29/11/2007 13:40

YABU. You have forgotten the information given to you about uniform, this is not an arbitary decision by the school. School corridors can often be dirty, chaotic places and Ugg boots are not at all suitable (not fitted enough). Also not smart enough IMHO.

£15 will get you a pair of leather/nearasdammit for school. Take out of dds xmas money fund if necessary.

ProfessorGrammaticus · 29/11/2007 13:40

Buy her some proper shoes!

kittylouise · 29/11/2007 13:40

Think YABU - you knew the uniform said leather. To be honest you can get some cheap shoes in Tesco or Matalan or wherever. Uggs are pretty impractical for school though, they will get soaked in puddles etc.

They are not real Uggs though are they? Aren't they about £60 a pair?

Cam · 29/11/2007 13:40

Am that you didn't know what the uniform requirements are

Slouchy · 29/11/2007 13:41

Yes, TellusMater, me too. (Ex Head of Year )

DANCESwithHughJackman · 29/11/2007 13:41

YABU. Uggs

SweetSnowflake · 29/11/2007 13:42

sorry but yes.

ugg bots are nice but not practical and def not for chool they will get ruined in a few days.

dd's shoes were £18 from adams, nice black shoes with lights in sole for road safety

Camillathechicken · 29/11/2007 13:43

uggs are not appropriate for school

and much more expensive than school shoes

sorry, but YABU, you should have know the requirements

Cam · 29/11/2007 13:43

Think of their feet, proper shoes are best when have to be worn all day. One thing I won't skimp on is school footwear for children.

SweetSnowflake · 29/11/2007 13:44

ooh sorry just saw your dd in secondary, so adams no good, but still you CAN get reasonable priced pairs.

Misdee · 29/11/2007 13:44

YABU, but dd2 has been wearing her trainers this week as her shoes appear to have been swallowed up somewhere in the house. was either trainers or crocs. hmmm. but i did let her teacher know why she was wearing trainers.

manchita · 29/11/2007 13:44

YABU

Cam · 29/11/2007 13:44

we seem to post at the same time quite often CTC

Camillathechicken · 29/11/2007 13:45

sorry cam....

LadyMuck · 29/11/2007 13:45

Even if you were not aware of the uniform rules, surely your dds realised that no-one else was wearing Uggs?

flowerybeanbag · 29/11/2007 13:46

YABU, why would you think Ugg boots would fit into the school uniform code? If you can only afford one pair of shoes, you should buy some that do rather than impractical Ugg boots.

Cam · 29/11/2007 13:46

I think its funny CTC

Greensleeves · 29/11/2007 13:49

Are they at primary school?

Schools can't enforce uniform codes anyway, if you're satisfied that your dds are comfortable and warm enough, you don't have to pay any attention to the school'd edicts.

Ugg boots are impractical and ugly IMO though.

TellusMater · 29/11/2007 13:51

I was just thinking "poor OP, never mind, the anti-uniform brigade will be along in a minute"...
