AIBU? to be annoyed that DD school have sent a letter saying she is incorrectly dressed because she is wearing Ugg boots, not shoes?

Have just checked and yes, hands up, the Uniform requirements do say only black polished leather, no trainers or boots and i didnt realise. But it's winter and they aren't seen with her trousers, well, about 4 inches of material is seen.

Cant afford a new pair of leather shoes, having just bought these for dd1 and 2 . Am waiting for a phone call back from the teacher.

lol TuM

EffiePerine · 29/11/2007 13:53

They can def enforce uniforms at secondary - we were sent home for infringements.

Greensleeves · 29/11/2007 13:53

Did I say I was anti-uniform? I don't think I did.

I pointed out that schools can't enforce uniform codes. Not anti-uniform as such, just anti-school teachers pretending to parents that they can insist on something, when in fact legally they can't.

TellusMater · 29/11/2007 13:54

I was only kidding Greensleeves - honest.

EffiePerine · 29/11/2007 13:54

surely partof the pointo fsecondary uniform is to avoid 'fashionable' (use the word advisedly) clothes choices? Stick her in a pair of black lace ups and have done with it

HeadHeartorHormones · 29/11/2007 13:55

YABU

Its put me in mind of Victoria Wood's "I couldn't get you a yoghurt so I bought you a pork pie". i.e. they're not even close!

Camillathechicken · 29/11/2007 13:55

i don;t see what is wrong with wearing correct and appropriate footwear and clothing ,especially for secondary school... good preparation for getting a job with a dress code etc....

Greensleeves · 29/11/2007 13:55

sorry Tellus, was being a bit prickly there

LadyMuck · 29/11/2007 13:55

If schools can't enforce uniform then why have there been court cases re Muslim girls clothing and chastity rings?

TellusMater · 29/11/2007 13:55

If it can be enforced at secondary but not primary level - why?

i imagine dress codes / rules were withdrawn from secondary school, it wouldn't be long before a minority of parents sued the school for the price of ruined boots, or for injuries caused by wearing stilettos for games .. i jest, but it is a slippery slope..

Lilymaid · 29/11/2007 13:57

YABU - is this a wind up?

stleger · 29/11/2007 13:58

My dd has a very strict shoe code. Last year her school shoes hurt her feet, then I found she had left the cardboard shapes in them. In September we got new school shoes which she insisted fitted - they still blister her toes. I wish she could wear her uggs - 8 euros in Primark, and spones when wet - but she can't!

Cam · 29/11/2007 13:58

CTC our views seem to be getting more and more similar daily

Are we morphing into ONE

Howdydoody · 29/11/2007 13:58

la la la, cant hear any answers that dont agree with me

No one going to answer then?

trudges off to count out her pennies.....

TellusMater · 29/11/2007 14:00

Camillathechicken · 29/11/2007 14:00

i think i see a couple of feathers sticking out of your head there, cam

JulesJules · 29/11/2007 14:01

Well yabu if that is the school uniform code, but the school is being unnecessarily strict imo. At DDs school, they have to change into indoor shoes in school "for health and safety reasons", is this not the same in all schools? Their outdoor shoes are therefore only worn outside, where in the winter, boots are much more practical and warm than shoes imo(especially cheap supermarket shoes!) We have a good half mile walk to school and DD wears her boots if it is cold!

thenewgirl · 29/11/2007 14:01

I was always trying to break rule here and there, I especially enjoyed wearing brown shoes when we were told to wear black.
I knew the consequences, but it was fun. we all looked like penguins, about 2000 penguins, so it felt nice to be a bit different.

I was a good girl other than that

Camillathechicken · 29/11/2007 14:02

oh dear howdydoody....

go to brantano , matalan, asda.. should be able to afford something else
