AIBU? to be annoyed that DD school have sent a letter saying she is incorrectly dressed because she is wearing Ugg boots, not shoes?

Have just checked and yes, hands up, the Uniform requirements do say only black polished leather, no trainers or boots and i didnt realise. But it's winter and they aren't seen with her trousers, well, about 4 inches of material is seen.

Cant afford a new pair of leather shoes, having just bought these for dd1 and 2 . Am waiting for a phone call back from the teacher.

WTF are you buying them those minging things anyway? if you can afford them you can afford £15 in Asda.

yes YABU - the school sent the letter saying she was incorrectly dressed BECAUSE SHE IS INCORRECTLY DRESSED.

get it?

Cam · 29/11/2007 14:07

Camillathechicken · 29/11/2007 14:08

that clears that up then !

mumblechum · 29/11/2007 14:08

Oh dear I'm feeling rather sorry for the OP now.

Howdydoody · 29/11/2007 14:09

Wouldnt mind so much but she's a size 8 to 9 and try getting "non-mumsy" shoes that large for a 5 foot 8 girl , not easy which is why i was thrilled we both agreed on these! Thanks all tho, has made me realise i have to be Mrs Apology if the teacher rings, rather than Mrs Apoplectic!

Good luck with finding appropriate shoes in those sizes Howdydoody, when will shoe manufacturers wake uo to the fact that school girls have adult sized feet

LadyMuck · 29/11/2007 14:12

If cash really is an issue then don't be afraid to mention it when she rings. But if they are really Ugg boots (and not cheap imitations, then I wouldn't mention it and just chalk it up to experience.

MerryAnnSinglemas · 29/11/2007 14:16

Howdydoody is taking this very well,I think

bozza · 29/11/2007 14:17

I think YABU but fairly good humoured about it.

Also don't get why you are getting a hard time when the poster on the other thread complaining about wrong coloured jumpers also got a hard time.

stleger · 29/11/2007 14:18

Adult sizes from age 9 onwards, too. And Clarks size 3 shoes are not appropriate for primary school! My dd wears inappropriate socks as a fashion statement, nobody seems to have noticed yet.

Howdydoody · 29/11/2007 14:20

Thanks MerryAnn and Bozza am used to being in the wrong having got teenage girls who know far more than i ever could!

Ooh what other thread? If I'm going down I'd love to have someone else with me

my dd's shoes came apart last week she went into school mon - thurs with a note saying shoes were broken will buy her more at end of week - am skint at the mo.

school are fine with this.

any reasonable adult will recognise when someone is skint - you cant buy weat you havent got the frickin money for.

if they are black ugs - under trousers and not a fashion statement but a 'make-do' until you have some money - tell the school this - tell them you are sorry but your skint

Blu · 29/11/2007 14:37

Oh dear Howdy - sorry .....but the horrible fact is that no only do you not have a leg to stand on with the teacher when she rings back, but all the other parents will hate you too, as they will get barrage of pestering along the lines of 'I waaaaaaan' ugg booots, HowdydoodyDD has uuuuuuugg boooooooots, whine whinge' ad nauseam, and it will all be your fault!

Howdydoody · 29/11/2007 14:46

blushes proudly but embarrassed at her daughter being a trendsetter - if only until the brand new lace up size 9 clarkes shoes arrive

Howdydoody,

If your dd is wearing the uggs all day in school then yes, yabu.

BUT, my dd1 and dd2 have ugg boots for going to school in because;

a. They take them off as soon as they get
to school
b. They are taken off as soon as they get
there.

b. They wear plimsolls in school.

As far as I am concerned they only wear them to and from school and when they are playing out and if they keep their feet warm etc, they can wear them

All depends really on whether your dd wears them all day at school or just to and from school imho as to whether you're been unreasonable or not.

kittylouise · 29/11/2007 14:54

I know all about trying to get decent shoes for my dd that are not too expensive, not too wacky and ones that she doesn't find repulsive. So I do sympathise.

I have size 9 feet and know it is a complete sod trying to get shoes in that size. Half the time end up cramming my feet into size 8s. The best shops that stock plenty size 9s are Faith, Dorothy Perkins and Dolcis. For cheap shoes for your daughter, try D2, they tend to stock large sizes and some of the shoes are quite cool (and pretty cheap). Hopefully you will find some in there.

Greensleeves · 29/11/2007 16:41

am not easily ed fish

Wisteria · 29/11/2007 16:44

YABVU yes...

What's wrong with Clark's?

I don't mind scrimping and saving/ having 2nd hand clothes etc for everything else but I will not buy cheap shoes/ or overproced designer ones either /

fircone · 29/11/2007 16:50

YABU
But - I remember my "approved" school shoe was called Cordelia. It was VILE. Unspeakable.

So I begged and begged my mother to buy me a trendier pair. In fact in an episode that has entered family history, I lost my temper and hit my mum over the head with a shoe in Saxone and knocked her out.

I won. I got the shoes. And I got sent home from school cos they were higher than 2cm

Wisteria · 29/11/2007 16:52

fircone - I used to scream and shout too but the shoes are ok now!!

AMerryScot · 29/11/2007 22:12
