Naming Things back for September!

So, DD starts her new secondary school this September so I have started trying to get all her uniform and things ready!
I have her stationary, name stickers, etc. but one thing is left...
The school has asked we name sports kit and their bags with these inch high name tapes which they have said to be sewn onto the outside. Somehow I think this might look a bit loony? But it has been requested.

What do you lot think...?

They're standard in most schools.

sanityisamyth · 08/08/2021 23:22

I'm pretty sure these are the ones they usually recommend.

Not that standard - I've never heard of them.

OP - I would find out (ask someone with children already at the school; failing that local FB group etc) if the name tapes are actually used by anyone other than zealous Year 7s, and if the school actually check.

Yup, our school has this (it was new to me too when we started).

Seems to be more common than I expected...
I guess it's impossible to lose one's bag when it has a giant label sewn on the outside!

Have a look on the school's twitter/sports pages (if they've got them) - you'll be able to see if the others have nametapes sewn onto the outside (even if they're greyed out on the photos). I'd have thought that if the requirements are that specific, it will be something everyone else does.

If you sew one of those big labels into the back of the blazer either end (strongly!), it's a good coat hook and less hard to lose.

I'm not planning to label any kit this year because the school is continuing the Covid-induced measure of students wearing PE kit all day on PE day. So much easier than having to get changed! They do have sports bags with name labels but haven't used them in months!

DonGray · 10/08/2021 08:43

Some private schools and boarding schools ask for big labels on the outside of kit

My DC's school hasn't done this but I've always wondered how it works if your PE kit gets wet and/or muddy? Do you just have to still stay in it all day (the wetness and mudiness of PE kits was exacerbated last year by the Covid induced measure of all PE being outside regardless of weather conditions ...)?

An awful lot of the students at DC's school don't even have sports bags. Are these mandatory at OP's school?

almay7 · 11/08/2021 18:27

@UserStillatLarge

I believe at DD's school they are mandatory, although I can't imagine the type of sports bag is something they'll police too hard. Perhaps I'll be proven to be wrong..

Never heard of huge labels on outside. Our high makes no mention of naming stuff but obv we all know we need to
