@Silkieschickens I’ve just replied on the other thread but you do have to go alone. I’ve been to every appointment by myself including surgery, it’s rubbish but the staff at the breast clinic are lovely in my experience.

Silkieschickens · 04/11/2021 14:06

So sorry that you have cancer MrsPnut, I have also always found staff fine, apart from odd one, in hospital once you get in I am just quite an anxious person and would rather have someone with me but can understand the rules. At least the doctor has warned me to expect bad news, she said to prepare for bad news but not sure how you are supposed to do that. Smile

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 04/11/2021 14:23

Oh no @Silkieschickens seems like you have a lot to cope with at the moment, hope you are not waiting long to be seen.

Rollergirl11 · 04/11/2021 14:40

Silkies sorry to hear your latest update. Your family have really been through it one way or another recently. Here’s hoping it’s better news than you the doctor has told you to expect. 🙏🤞

Nard75 · 04/11/2021 14:57

So sorry to hear your bad news @Silkieschickens hope everything turns out better than expected 🙏🏽

StColumbofNavron · 04/11/2021 17:47

Oh gosh @Silkieschickens unmumsnetty hugs. And @MrsPnut hope that you are ok too.

I’m fine thanks, was diagnosed a year ago so been having treatment a long time.
DD loved today’s 6th form and wants to go there. We’ve decided to apply for both this and her school and she is set on Maths, Chemistry and Art for her A levels.

StColumbofNavron · 05/11/2021 12:11

Thanks @PaddingtonPaddington

Sorry to hear your news @Silkieschickens Hope your referral comes through quickly.

@MrsPnut how long is your treatment for? Hope it's going okay.

Thank you for the English revision tips @aramox1 I feel bad that I'm not even sure what his texts are. English was my least favourite gcse so I sort of forget about it when it comes to DS.

Thank you for the gcse timetable @PaddingtonPaddington My DS is doing some igcse too, will they be on the same day as the subject gcse does anybody know?

DS has a taster morning at a sixth form college tomorrow. Hoping it helps him decide which one of economics, politics and philosophy he's going to choose for A-level.

Silkieschickens · 05/11/2021 21:08

Thanks very much everyone. At least week is over, DD has been in 4 days out of 5 but coming home and sleeping so I am not sure what mocks she has sat. DS seems to have missed a few lessons though he had covid vaccine so hopefully was just feeling under weather from that and will return to normal lessons soon, could also be schools records are wrong.

Hope everyone has a good weekend. All our fireworks are cancelled here Sad though it is nice to be inside and warm, have bought us and ds who is fleece obsessed fleece duvet covers and sheets and ds is very snuggly in his. His rabbit has been very happily eating pumpkin.

Lightsabre · 07/11/2021 15:57

Fingers crossed for you silkieschickens - there's so much going on for you. It must be hard.

We are in English Lit revision hell. Ds keeps stomping off saying he can't do it. He has a test on Tuesday on Jekyll and Hyde and other homework too plus senior maths challenge. There's a lot of revision material out there but he's finding it difficult to sift through. Currently writing out cards on each of the main characters and themes with quotes. He's in a terrible mood and had his covid jab yesterday too. I feel quite sorry for him but wish he'd done some of this in the summer instead of hours of gaming!

Silkieschickens · 08/11/2021 00:38

Thanks Light At least your DS is doing some work at home, more than mine is doing Smile though a very stressful year for them. DD had 5 mocks last week and missed 3 and has mocks all this week including 3 missed plus Senior Maths Challenge plus 2 days of mocks week after. Feel sorry for them, another set of mocks later. She went out with friends one day this weekend and revised the other.

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 08/11/2021 10:26

My DS is doing the SMC this week as well though he doesn't seem to want to do any preparation for it. Last year they told him it wouldn't be possible until on the day itself they said he could do it and he did amazingly well with no prep so I think he thinks he will just wing it!

Mocks start next Mon with English Lit first up so trying to get him to revise but he is not keen. I have bought so many study guides! I know just reading is not the best form of revision but there is no way he will write anything out so it's got to be better than nothing, he has done most of the Seneca his teacher set (I think). He types for English anyway and will be typing in the exams. Currently he's not keen on using his chromebook in other subjects but school have said it is an option for him if he decides to later, I think he probably should for drama at least but I guess we will see how the mocks go.

All the best to those in the middle of mocks, appreciating this thread as I don't really know many other year 11 parents to vent to in real life!

Silkieschickens · 09/11/2021 16:56

Hope mocks and SMC go well for your DS Its Not sure when DD will sit SMC exactly as school timetabled it same time as her English mock.

Rollergirl, have you seen the news on Austria today www.austria.info/en/service-and-facts/coronavirus-information looks like a ski trip is iffy unless they change rules again.

I have a cancellation appointment through from hospital so go in on Friday for tests.

Lightsabre · 09/11/2021 21:10

Eek! Ds GCSE music recording tomorrow. Worth 30% of the marks. He's fine one on one but will have to play in front of the whole class.

StColumbofNavron · 09/11/2021 21:35

Aww best of luck @Lightsabre

@Silkieschickens yes have seen it. School are currently working out options. There’s a rumour going round that they are looking to switch to France. Honestly don’t know how feasible that is so late in the day with 80 students! I think now would be the time to admit defeat!

Rollergirl11 · 10/11/2021 07:57

Good luck for your DS music recording today @Lightsabre. Hope he smashes it!

@Silkieschickens that’s good you managed to get a cancellation. Fingers crossed for you for Friday.

Silkieschickens · 10/11/2021 08:32

Hope it goes well for your DS Lightsabre

Thanks Rollergirl Not sure with France as they have double vaccinated their over 12s, our covid rates are not great and political relations are not exactly great. We had similar issues when school kept insisting they were running a Italy school trip for start of June 2020 with an near retirement teacher with heart issues taking them.

DD had French and Economics yesterday, both ones she has had to catch up on and not been taught, she took them on as extras and now has a ridiculous quantity of gcses, she is doing mocks for something like 14 or 15 subjects and her SMC paper. I have lost count, she just keeps asking teachers to add her. Theres the and for some reason her further maths teacher wants her to sit 2 further maths papers which makes no sense to me, one is like an AS level, one a gcse. I think its 14 but the AS is worth 2 or so. I think its far too many but leaving her to it. Will see how it goes. History they told her she only needed to do 3 out of 4 topics but she realised she has done 4 optional ones so needs to do all 4 now though topics overlap so good to have all 4.

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 10/11/2021 09:27

Hope it goes really well for your DS @Lightsabre

I'll be thinking of you on Friday @Silkieschickens, pleased you don't have to wait too long.

Meanwhile still no response from school to my email a week ago asking who would make the decision about entering DS for Statistics as an extra GCSE, sigh. He is doing the SMC tomorrow I think. Also he has his mock French oral tomorrow, it was meant to be yesterday but they ran out of time which he was a bit annoyed about. I am predicting he will do very badly in that (as he has done no work for it) but hopefully he'll do well in the SMC (probably more important from his point of view.)

Silkieschickens · 10/11/2021 09:38

DD said they told her the oral for French does not count to the grade this year, its just a letter to go alongside it. She was quite happy about that. Quite surprised how laid back DDs current school are about her just adding herself to extra GCSEs though old school was the same. One did mention they may bill me but that is fine. Have no idea how she will do in French, she stopped in y9 and think it was her weakest subject but she came top of the year in French at her grammar in y7. I don't think she has done any French past year though so was quite Shock when she added herself to that one. She currently is just sitting writing and reading and they aren't doing listening and speaking with the self-taught students this mocks but will do next mocks. She is strong on listening, weaker on speaking but think most people are like that and her accent is good.

Rollergirl11 · 10/11/2021 10:01

@Silkieschickens wow, that is a huge amount of GCSE’s to be taking! I think I’d be a bit concerned about physically sitting the exams for that number of subjects let alone revising for them all. I’m surprised the school have allowed it. Do you think she will be able to cope taking them all Silkie? I’d be worried about burning herself out.

SunflowersInTheShade · 10/11/2021 10:22

Silkieschickens Hope it's not as bad as it sounds - take care and good luck! (Struggling with a bad back too - also wishing for days when I was younger and healthier and could actually get things done)
Paddington thanks for the timetable! My ds is so absent minded - he won't know about it till the day before!

Good luck to all with the mocks!
DS's are in December - so trying to push him along with his revision.

MrsPnut · 10/11/2021 11:40

@Lightsabre Hope it goes well for your son today.

DD has mocks the week after next and I am still stressing about her not doing enough revision but at least they will be done before I have surgery on 1st December so she can concentrate on one thing at a time.
