Anyone used Lucy Parson study/revision system?

DD is finishing year 10 and has done badly in her end of year exams. She wants to do A levels so needs to raise her game.

I’m looking at ways she can develop revision and exam skills and there is a lot of advice out there plus various summer schools, revision groups etc. I found Lucy Parsons online and there are various levels of support but it’s not cheap so I’m wondering what level of support DD will need and how impactful the offer is. lifemoreextraordinary.com/study-skills-coaching/

Does anyone have any experience of this site - or any other programmers/websites you can recommend? TIA!

How did she revise?

Starting with the basics:

  • did she spend sufficient time per subject
  • did she focus when she revised or get distracted by phone
  • did she do active revision or just read notes
  • did she revisit things or learn them 'once'

Why did she do badly in the exams:

  • didn't understand the content
  • didn't know the content
  • couldn't apply the content
  • didn't use good answering technique

She did not revise effectively so I knew she hadn’t done well (although she thought she’d done ok). I decided to let this happen so she could draw her own conclusions. She needs to decide to do this for herself and find her motivation, only then is there any point to our stepping in with support.

I suspect there is a mix of lack of knowledge and lack of good exam technique (eg not enough quotes in literature exam). She has had a shock as she has not done well in her strongest subjects. It was hard to see this coming and not say anything but she needs to decide what she wants and how much effort she wants to put in for herself at this stage. I hope. Gulp.

I gave her a pep talk about how it’s all down to her and she can turn it round if she puts the effort in and we will help and support in any and all ways - but only once she has decided she wants to do it.

I follow Lucy on Facebook, but haven't subscribed to her groups of courses.
A friend signed her year 12 daughter up to one of her revision seminars and found it useful. That said, there are so many free revision resources on Youtube etc, that I'd start there and see how your DD gets on.

Corbett Maths
Free Science Lessons
Seneca
Maths and Physics tutor
Khan Academy
Mr Bruff
Mr Sallis
BBC bite size

for starters.

CUP revision books and work books are excellent too.

@Fretfulagain Sorry to resurrect an old thread. I wasn’t wondering if joined and, if so, your thoughts - or how you got on with other resources for your daughter. I hope it all worked out OK for her (and you).
