Book suggestions for Year 8

Hi, I am struggling to entertain a restless child this holiday. He has read all of Phillip Pullman’s His Dark Materials and Book of Dust books since more than a year ago and loved them. Since then, I have been struggling to find books he likes. His reading ability is above average but not ready to transition to books with romantic themes yet as he says they are silly and senseless. The last book he read and loved was Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman! Any suggestions will be appreciated, but nothing with substantial romantic themes.

Hi there,

My son starting (Y7 in Sept) has just finished the Maze Runner books. He's also read the quite a few of the Rick Riordan Percy Jackson series. He's reading Hunger Games now.

Check them out to see if he likes those

Hunger Games, Divergent, Maze Runner, Dan Brown books like Da Vinci Code, Angels & Demons etc are all good, action, adventure with very little/no romance.

My son has call of the wild, diary of Anne Frank and the young bond books on his reading list which we will be doing this summer.

Dan Smith and Alan Gratz write good books for that age.

Year 8 DS loves the skulduggery pleasant series by Derek Landy. Also agree with above suggestions of Hunger games and maze runner.

Thanks very much for the suggestions, everyone. River of Ink series sounds good, and I will check out the rest too!

DS3 loved Robert Muchamore at that age - the Cherub series and Henderson's Boys.
