Hi. My daughter (y8) likes French and wants to stretch her French - especially listening and reading. Do you know any good French materials for listening/reading for year 8/9 students? No need to be a textbook. Any apps, websites, tv program, radio etc.. any sources are welcome!

She might enjoy "Il etait une histoire" which is a free app and tells fairy tales in French.

Thank you, genie10. I’ll get it!

You can change the settings in Netflix to watch dubbed versions of programmes. Might be easiest to start with children's content but watching something she knows well might work too

Great idea, TotorosCatBus. We will do it. Many thanks! I like your Name too- that’s my favorite Ghibli film.

Lupin on Netflix has been very popular with DD (y7). Call my Agent is also good.

Or she could watch tons of amazing movies - Ascenseur pour l’echafaud, Amelie, Jean de Florette/Manon des sources, Caché, and so many more.

What sorts of books is she reading? Would she enjoy Asterix, Petit Nicolas, Le petit prince?

How about getting her a copy of her favourite book translated into French, so she can compare the two? Re podcasts, I've struggled to find something that's a) interesting for this age group and b) linguistically pitched at the right level, so if anyone knows of anything (in French or German) I'd be very interested too!

Thanks Yellownotblue. That’s also a great idea! Are those Netflix ones (Lupin etc..) for biginners? My daughter’s French is pretty beginners level..

Thank you, pangolins. I thought about it too! She loves reading, so I should find a French version of those. Is podcast for listening..?

When DD was doing Spanish we went all through our extensive DVD collection and put small stickers on all the ones with Spanish. We found it interesting how random the languages were across the DVDs.

Thank you, TeenMinusYests! It’s great to hear parents get involve like that. That sounds a very interesting idea!
