missed grammar school deadline

Hi,
I wanted to know how many grammar schools do people generally apply for? We had a list of schools in London we were considering applying to and in all the 11+ prep I totally missed the deadline for some of the schools that were lower down the list. Feel quite gutted that I was that negligent. Anyway, just wanted to see how many people generally apply to and how many exams kids sit?

Hi @user173029768 but confused by your post. Is this for a current year 5 child? If so, deadlines all tend to be August on. We sat all the grammars (=2 sets of exams) and three indies (but they all shared the Iseb during lockdown),

Are you in North London @user173029768? If so, unfortunately you have missed the registration deadline for Latymer and DAO. Those are the only two DS is going for as we can’t afford fee-paying. Our other options will be local comprehensives.

I have a year 5 Ds but we are South East London so have applied for Bexley, St Olaves and Kent test. Some of our friends are also doing Medway but we decided that is too far. There are also comps with selective intakes like Kingsdale which we might consider (DS very musical). But we also have 2 local strong comps which are perfectly good schools which we would get. Haven’t decided yet if DS will sit 2 independents for scholarships too - their deadlines are later and we would have the grammar results by then and an idea of chance of getting certain schools (except st olaves). Where are you? We are already spoilt for choice (I know we are very lucky) so I don’t want to have even more choices because it is such a short window you get to decide

we're in East London and I have a DS in Yr 5 - planning to move if needed depending on what the outcomes of the test results are. I missed the Bexley, Beth deadlines and am a bit gutted about those.

but the tests that I've put DS in for we should be able to have a chance at ~3-4 grammar schools. They're all super-selective though, so would have been nice to have a wider choice. Also missed the deadline for our local grammar for which we would be in the catchment for. grrrr.

Ok but it is done now so onwards and upwards!
We have registered for tests - but only now starting properly on 11 plus prep. My DS is very bright but I knew he would get bored and sloppy if we started early. He will prefer a race to a marathon.
Some of our friends have been tutoring since year 4 and have put in hundreds of hours and some are willing to move and have registered for Sutton/North London and even Eg Colchester.
We are aiming for about 75 hours of him working/me marking crammed into the holidays… there will be kids who have worked all hours and others who have done much less. I think it is important to make the most of your individual situation and be happy with it. Too many exams are exhausting anyway. Good luck.

Jumpalicious · 11/07/2021 20:22

Oh ok. So tiffin and Sutton grammars are still open to register. Agree too many exams are exhausting. However, so you know: the Sutton test gives options to three schools.

user173029768 · 12/07/2021 10:58

Thanks All - yes I've already applied for Sutton and tiffin (though we're not in the catchment for tiffin). So we do have a chance at 4 schools. Just going to put our head down and focus on these now!

user did you register for Kent?

It is a shame re Bexley as for boys the catchment has been quite wide.

I would check out Kingsdale.

You can always try again re late entry - but it is very tough as by then the schools are likely to be full. What is done is done.

I remember one teacher telling me that every single year parents miss the deadline so you won't be alone! But best just trying for where you can get a test for and see how you go!
