My son had a trial day at his new secondary school. He absolutely hated it and is refusing to go for September. I need to find an independent school for him. Academically he is above average, not at all sporty (hates playing football etc), but is very creative , thinks outside the box and loves thatre and music. Any suggestions? Schhols break up in 2 weeks.

If he's not at all sporty then is an independent school the way to go? They have massive amounts of compulsory sport compared with state schools.

Has he said why he hates the school? The reality may be that - unless you can find a last minute place in another one (independent or state) or can home school - that’s where he’ll have to go in September.

The King Alfred School in Golders Green is great for art and drama and might conceivably have a place. In your shoes, however, I'd just get a copy of the Good Schools Guide and a phone and start calling everywhere you'd consider.

Have you spoken to his current school? Do you know what the issue with the secondary school is? It seems a big decision to make based on one trial day.

^^This. I presume you had good reasons for choosing the school in the first place? If so, would it not be better to try it for a term or two with a view to moving him if it doesnt work out?

Which school was it and why did he hate it? I agree that surely worth trying it out in September?

I wouldn't not send him because of a one day trial. Also these trials are currently rubbish due to covid and the school being able to do very little.
What makes you think he won't hate an indie?
