I am looking for a good secondary school for DD in the Colchester area and would welcome any advice/suggestions? Are we are only moving there at the end of the year it would be a mid term arrival. DD is very academic and has a sting live for drama and cultural as well.

Thanks

‘oops, excuse spelling errors -that should have read that DD is very academic and has a strong love and flair for drama and cultural pursuits as well.
I’m just very eager to get info. How do I edit posts!’

How old is your DD and are you asking about state or private or both?

If you are looking for a private school, Ipswich School sounds like it might be a good fit as they are very strong academically and have great drama and music - and excellent sports too if that’s something that appeals. It’s a mixed school. Otherwise lots of people choose RHS (mixed) at Holbrook: traditionally it is less academic and more of a boarding school but it is getting stronger academically every year and has a lot of day pupils now, albeit with long days and Saturday school. Other private schools in the area are less highly regarded in my opinion. They include: St Mary’s (in Colchester, all girls, only goes up to 16); Ipswich High School (all girls); Colchester High School (in Colchester, mixed, only goes up to 16) and St Joseph’s (Ipswich, mixed). Academically you can’t beat the Colchester Grammar Schools (girls’ one for your daughter), but comprtition to get in is fierce (year 7 entry and some at year 9) and I don’t believe the drama, music, sport, extra curricular provision or cultural care is equivalent to what’s on offer at the private schools.

I meant pastoral care (not cultural care)
