Admissions appeals/PAN/Waiting List query

Hi. This is probably one for the Admissions Experts.

My DC is number 1 on a school waiting list. Yesterday, someone I know had a successful appeal for the school, which is therefore now at least 1 above its PAN of 180. Does this mean I now have to wait for 2 people to reject their offer rather than 1? In other words, will the PAN need to drop below its original level (180) or its new level (181) before a further place is offered?

*Correction: I mean "will the number of offers need to drop..." not "will the PAN need to drop ...".

Almost certainly, yes, because the school won’t have a vacancy to offer you until it’s at PAN minus one.

Thanks PanelChair. Good for my friend then, but one in the eye for me. That's life I guess

Obviously it’s very hard to predict, but as you’re first on the waiting list I’d be surprised if you didn’t have a place by September. Keep in mind, though, that any late additions to the list from people in higher priority groups (looked after children, say) could mean that you move down the list.

Confirm that school would have to lose 2 pupils, so that they would be at 179 pupils before a place could be offered to the pupil at the top of the waiting list. With a PAN of 180 there has got to be a reasonable chance that you will get the offer of a place before September.
