They had a science lesson! With real bunsen burners! It was the best lesson ever! She can't wait to start!
Shame she'll have to wait till next September

Really though, I have serious doubts about the school in some respects (discipline issues, mainly) but they certainly do a really good transition programme with our primary. She is going to have more sessions there over the course of the year (science and sport) which I think is excellent. I wondered if most secondary schools do this type of programme and did people find it helped their DC?

DD went for her open day 2 years ago, she had a science lesson with real bunsen burners too. Maybe thats a tester day staple. LOL

yes the bunses burners never fail to impress, did they get out the coakraoches and sewing machines as well?

yes, dd1 has been along to her first trip as have the kids at the school I teach in. They do tend to lay it on thick with all the exciting stuff.

Dd1 was thrilled to get to do a D&T class while some other poor buggers were landed with the maths department

Cockroaches? Sewing machines? In close juxtaposition? Sounds a bit cruel to me

This wasn't an open day - they've had that, it was part of a programme of lessons that goes on throughout the year. They do science, D&T and PE.
