I watched with interest the information and support on this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/4177427-PART-3-SW-London-Girls-Indies-11-Results-Decisions-Panic-Over and wanted to start the same thread for South West London parents with daughters who will be applying for secondaries (independents and grammar) for places in year 7 in Sept 2022.

Where are you applying, how are the virtual open days going..... and to tutor or not to tutor?

SHS sent out taster session emails this morning to offer holders, so for those of waiting for letters, you'll at least find out sooner than Monday...

Mumalsoasfriend · 06/02/2022 10:17

@HighRopes

I’m so glad it’s not an exploding offer - that was a stressful thought, since we haven’t even had the letter yet.

On the grade inflation, I did see quite a lot of school mentioned on this thread on the list. Surbiton topped it for GCSEs, with PHS third and Sutton High tenth.

For A level grade inflation, PHS was seventh, SPGS 16th.

We refer to the GCSE or A-level grades/percentage in 2019 which are thought to be “organic”.

She got an offer! I’m so glad they sent the email.

A few years ago, some schools (CLSG, from memory) had offers which ‘exploded’ ie ceased to exist when a certain number of acceptances were received before the deadline for replies set out in the offer letter. It was a way of making sure that parents replied and paid deposits quickly. But one which meant parents had to decide before knowing what other offers they had on the table, especially state options. Or pay a hefty, non-refundable deposit to keep their options open.
AliW79 · 06/02/2022 18:17

Sorry to ask again but does anyone know what date and through what method PHS are sending offers? A previous poster suggested Friday 11th but I wasn’t sure if that was ‘by’ or ‘on’. We know when and how to expect info on the others but not PHS! Their email that came with the Athena Assessment invitation just said ‘mid February’. Appreciate any specific info for my sanity this week!

11plusName · 06/02/2022 19:21

@HighRopes, is there a specific wording in the offer that suggests this?

One offer I have says ‘offer of a place subject to availability’, it made me feel a it nervous when I read it.

Westlondonmom22 · 06/02/2022 19:24

@HighRopes is this a new thing. Does it mean you either accept quickly or you lose your spot if others say yes before you?

HighRopes · 06/02/2022 20:01

@11plusName I don’t know, I’m afraid. I would look for something like ‘may be withdrawn before closing date’. But I’ve never seen one, just read about them.

@Westlondonmom22 Yes, that’s what it means. I read about it on MN a few years ago when dd1 was going through the process. If you use the search function you might find more, I remember a lot of discussion about it.

HighRopes · 06/02/2022 20:47

But also a hopeful bump for AliW79’s question. @Pigtastic I’d love to know if Putney are emailing or posting, and if they are aiming for a particular day this week. I just re-read WHS, and it’s definitely ‘by COP Friday 11th’, while SPGS is ‘on Thursday 10th’.

travelturtle · 06/02/2022 20:47

@11plusName that does maybe sound like an exploding offer to be honest - shouldn’t usually be subject to availability otherwise. Are your able to check with the school?

11plusName · 06/02/2022 21:18

@travelturtle, we were going to wait until after the holder event but we’ll probably accept within the next two days. It’s the one we want anyway.

rssnfrssn · 07/02/2022 04:16

I've heard PHS offers are going out today (Monday 7th), although afraid I don't know if it's email or post...

Pigtastic · 07/02/2022 06:18

I have tried to go back to the source of the PHS key dates but they have taken them out of their website.

However, I went back to last year timeline - as my other DD sat the 11+ last year - and WHS and PHS came out on the 5/02 and LU and G&L on the 12/02.

Finger crossed we will know soon 🤞

AliW79 · 07/02/2022 06:25

Thank you to the above two posters. I will hold my breath today!

AliW79 · 07/02/2022 06:27

And also stalk my postman!

Pigtastic · 07/02/2022 06:44

If it is of any help, last year they came by email first!

AliW79 · 07/02/2022 07:01

It does help, Pigtastic!

squirrelofsw19 · 07/02/2022 09:24

Oh my goodness thanks ladies. I have been lurking on this thread for a while and wanted to thank you all for sharing your insights and experiences. The 2021 thread was like a novel but all seemed to work out in the end. Hope it will be the same for everyone’s DDs this year. We are so lucky to have so many good schools in the area. Another day of swiping to refresh then. Our green envelope didn’t arrive til 4pm on Sunday which was torture but contents were totally worth the wait taking the pressure off this week (a little). Best of luck to all your DDs.

Pigtastic · 07/02/2022 12:17

We have just received the offer from Putney!!!! I’m so happy, the pressure is decreasing.

HighRopes · 07/02/2022 12:19

Congratulations! Email or post?

Pigtastic · 07/02/2022 12:23

Email

PricePoint · 07/02/2022 12:32

@Pigtastic congrats.... and thats exactly it... the pressure goes right down when you have an offer :)
