I watched with interest the information and support on this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/4177427-PART-3-SW-London-Girls-Indies-11-Results-Decisions-Panic-Over and wanted to start the same thread for South West London parents with daughters who will be applying for secondaries (independents and grammar) for places in year 7 in Sept 2022.

Where are you applying, how are the virtual open days going..... and to tutor or not to tutor?

@SkaterGrrrrl thank you 😊

travelturtle · 04/02/2022 18:50

@doodleandsketch I have friends with kids at St George’s who are very happy with it. Seems academic but also balanced - they do lots of activities alongside their school work. Also a friend with children at Claremont who is enjoying it (less academic I think). I don’t know Notre Dame.

Benny12 · 04/02/2022 19:27

@doodleandsketch ... if you are moving to weybridge then st georges is perfect ...

Firenze12 · 04/02/2022 19:42

I used to live in Weybridge. Lovely place! If that's where you will be based I'd forget Claremont and focus on Notre Dame or St George's which are both easy to get to. If you get a St George's offer too, I'd go back and visit them with fresh eyes.

@doodleandsketch

Hi all, this is my first time posting and I have been reading through all your thoughts and messages about schools. My DD sat 11+ for Notre Dame in Cobham, Claremont and St George's. So far she has been offered a place at Notre Dame and Claremont. St George's results come out next week. We have lived overseas for 10 years, so are new to this. My daughter fell in love with Notre Dame when she visited it, but because it has been so difficult to travel we have only viewed the other two schools online. Can anyone give me pros and cons for any of these schools. DD is quite quiet, academic and very arty. She likes sports, especially gymnastics and football, but not super competitive. She is in a small co-ed primary school in Switzerland at the moment and we return to the UK in the summer. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks
Weybridge is fine for Claremont - there is a bus. It has been very popular this year - the grounds are pretty special, and it is a very friendly school, where an arty DD would fit in really well

Meimng · 05/02/2022 12:24

Congrats all! We are overseas and we are still waiting

FunkyT · 05/02/2022 14:45

We got a yes from SHS! THRILLED!

HighRopes · 05/02/2022 15:48

Congrats, Funky!

Entirely predictably, no post here at all today. Fingers crossed for Monday.

Benny12 · 05/02/2022 16:17

well done to everyone on the surbiton offers ... @HighRopes & @Meimng ...🤞🤞hoping you get good news on Monday...

AliW79 · 05/02/2022 18:40

Congrats to all those getting offers today. We are waiting on PHS, Jags, WHS and ScHS. Think I know the offer dates for all except Putney. Does anyone know when Putney let us know and whether by snail mail or email?

Pigtastic · 05/02/2022 18:56

@aliW79 PHS has said that they will come out with offer on the 11/02.

We are also waiting for PHS, KGS, LU, Emanuel and G&L. They all have the same deadline 11/02. My prediction is that KGS will be the first one out together with Emanuel mid next week followed by PHS and last on the Friday G&L and LU.
My fingers are super crossed 🤞

AliW79 · 05/02/2022 19:05

Ah so definitely ON Friday not just BY Friday like WHS?

travelturtle · 05/02/2022 19:20

@Pigtastic We are also waiting on LU and Emanuel but just checked back and both say results on 11 (LU by email and Emanuel post 10 and email 11). I don’t think they will be before.

SkaterGrrrrl · 05/02/2022 22:50

It's a YES from SHS here too! We are thrilled.

Huge congrats to all the MN DDs with a green envelope today Grin

Not accepting yet, as although SHS is my first choice for the pastoral care and easy commute, DD is equally interested in LEH.... so waiting to see if anything comes of that.

Also can I please check that Surbiton doesn't do exploding offers.... ?

From the letter it looks like a regular deadline but thought I'd check!

OP posts:
refusetobeasheep · 06/02/2022 08:26

It's not an exploding offer. Anyone see the article in The Times today which seems to have SHS leading in grade inflation at GCSE last year? A 34 per cent increase does seem questionable ... could be repercussions?

PricePoint · 06/02/2022 08:47

@refusetobeasheep i think all schools have done it at A level and gcse. The results and final grades were based on predicted grades... those are really subjective from teacher to teacher and school to school. If you look across all the schools you will see some major movements. And thats why the last 2 years league tables are almost useless... well in my opinion.

HighRopes · 06/02/2022 09:18

I’m so glad it’s not an exploding offer - that was a stressful thought, since we haven’t even had the letter yet.

On the grade inflation, I did see quite a lot of school mentioned on this thread on the list. Surbiton topped it for GCSEs, with PHS third and Sutton High tenth.

For A level grade inflation, PHS was seventh, SPGS 16th.
