I watched with interest the information and support on this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/4177427-PART-3-SW-London-Girls-Indies-11-Results-Decisions-Panic-Over and wanted to start the same thread for South West London parents with daughters who will be applying for secondaries (independents and grammar) for places in year 7 in Sept 2022.

Where are you applying, how are the virtual open days going..... and to tutor or not to tutor?

Hi, does anyone have any info on what Surbiton’s interview entails? … thanks for any guidance.

refusetobeasheep · 08/01/2022 19:52

I think this is the first year of interviews for Surbiton, so no prior experience. DD has hers on Wednesday, so if you're after I can fill you in! All I know at the moment is they'll be given a text to read and asked about it.

Mumalsoasfriend · 08/01/2022 20:07

@HighRopes

Mumalsofriend yes, it was a bit nerve-wracking!

Congrats to to all the dds who got PHS and G&L emails!

Thanks @HighRopes  best of luck to all the DDs.

@1forward2back
Sutton is lovely and nurturing no doubt. But i have always felt that the academic element has been lacking which is frustrating as she hasnt reached her potential. But she is happy so difficult.
I have found it sometimes a bit too laidback and that is difficult when you pay a fees!!
Also a bad experience of some teachers has resulted in a sour taste but that can happen anywhere.
I am really on the fence with it to be honest.
I do think she needs a fresh start but conscious that it may just end up being same situation...different environment!

FunkyT · 09/01/2022 02:19

We had the surbiton interview- very friendly and not at all scary! Why did they start interviews this year I wonder...

confu5ed · 09/01/2022 09:33

They did Surbiton interviews last year too, but last year they interviewed everyone pre-Christmas and before the online exam... interviews were all about getting to know the girls and were very friendly! I can't quite remember the details, but I think they introduced them last year because they couldn't have the girls in school in person because of Covid (prior to last year, I think they did an in-person getting to to know you day pre-Christmas).

Good luck to all you DDs! It's such a stressful process but last year, everyone we knew got a place at a school, even if they didn't initially, once the waiting lists began to move, everyone got somewhere they were happy with!

SkaterGrrrrl · 09/01/2022 19:02

DD sat Radnor House yesterday. A walk in the park compared to LEH.

@Westlondonmom22
Sorry, I'm replying late, cause we were traveling during the weekend.
SPGS interview went well according to my daughter. She was given some maths problems and asked to comment on her thinking, her approach on solving it.
The rest was more of a general talk. She was very worried she would be asked something about live in England, like name all children of the Queen, but thankfully it wasn't the case.

puzzledmom · 10/01/2022 16:20

Anyone's DD do CLSG? How did they find it?

dreadingthetime · 10/01/2022 16:33

Anyone's DD do CLSG? How did they find it?
My DD did it :-}
Westlondonmom22 · 10/01/2022 16:33

@confusedmomfromBerlin glad you all got back ok. Did they confirm if it is 12 or 13th that we will hear?! Did you finally hear back from G&L? We have one more tomorrow and we are done Smile

refusetobeasheep · 10/01/2022 16:46

So good to be getting to the end .. DD had last exam on sunday, Interview on Wednesday. I think KGS is the next we're due to hear from, by EOD Friday. LEH just says mid January ....

greenwicharlotte · 10/01/2022 22:52

Mine did too. Found the maths very hard

greenwicharlotte · 10/01/2022 22:53

Did clsg I meant

SW17cleocat · 10/01/2022 23:15

DD did the WHS assessment online today. I left the room and didn’t listen but from what she told me it was like a clue trail type of thing. There was some writing which they had to read out. She thinks it went well but who knows. Not sure how they decide. There were no overly quiet or overly obnoxious girls - I guess they just choose the girls they want to teach. Argh, this was the last one, so happy it’s over. Now a month to wait

SW17cleocat · 10/01/2022 23:16

Good luck to everyone!

HighRopes · 11/01/2022 07:27

Dd did WHS yesterday, too. She said it was like a live version of the SPGS comprehension paper, and quite enjoyed it despite being very nervous and generally disliking anything on zoom. So I think they must have done well at making the girls feel comfortable. From my last time in this process, though, I don’t think it makes that much difference. It’s largely about the VR/NVR marks, and the creative assessment can bump them up or down that ranking a little. On the other hand, all the girls at stage 2 will be on the waiting list, if not offered, if this is the same as a few years ago.

For us, it’s now just the Surbiton interview and PHS to go, with fingers crossed for an SPGS interview as well.

confusedmomfromBerlin · 11/01/2022 09:30

@Westlondonmom22 unfortunately they did not tell me when they are going to send the interview invites in SPGS. But what they did say that they will contact us by the end the of January with the outcome. Which would be very nice, waiting for results is sooo hard. I think I'm worried for my daughter more than for I ever was worried for my exams. Oh maybe I just forgot it all)

puzzledmom · 11/01/2022 10:56

@greenwicharlotte same here. DD didn't complete maths and didn't have time to look at 5 questions

Meimng · 11/01/2022 11:56

Good luck to all girls!

DD has completely all her written assessments. Only left with surbiton interview and KGS if she gets through. I am relieved that majority of the stress is over!

RM46 · 11/01/2022 12:54

Any one with a child that sat LU today? How did they find it? - mine said English fine, maths quite challenging in parts but ok (sounds like she had to leave a few out though)…. So glad that’s it now in terms of exams, she’s done!

LAgirl · 11/01/2022 13:26

DD is doing hers at 1:30! I wonder how many sessions they're running as I have another friend whose DD starts at 2:30?!

RM46 · 11/01/2022 13:38

Oh good luck to your daughter @LAgirl 🤞yes I wonder… ours was at 8.30 but there were some being called in for 8.15 and we have a friend who was sitting it at 1pm. The queues to go in were round the block!
