Hi Mumsnet,

Forest School is abandoning it's diamond structure and going co-ed. I have mixed feelings. How do you feel about it?

I think it’s a bit of a shame. I had a look in their website just now and they say one reason they’re doing it is their data shows parents apply to other co-ed schools as well as Forest, so they must like co-ed schools. I always thought the diamond structure of lessons in single sex groups 11-16 but plenty of opportunities to mingle in extra curricular seas really good. It’s what I would have liked at school. You still get co-ed classes 16-18 to get ready for university and the working world.
Despite reading all the blurb I don’t really know why they’re doing it.

Perhaps now so many teenagers are exploring their gender identity and identifying as non-binary or the opposite gender, it simplifies things to keep things co-ed.

@lanthanum I agree, implementing structures and policies that help teenagers explore and discover who they are is always a good thing. I wonder if girls will lose out when developing confidence when learning STEM subjects.
