North Leeds secondary state and independent

Hi all,

Does anyone have any opinions on the secondary schools in North Leeds? Specifically, whether GSAL (Leeds Grammar School) is really worth the money compared to Roundhay secondary or Allerton Grange. It seems like the catchment for good state secondary schools is very small in this area so we would probably need to move house to get into one of these schools anyway.

All thoughts appreciated.

I would say definitely say so.
The schools in Leeds aren’t great. Roundhay would be one of the better ones so if you are certain you could get in there then not so bad.
Allerton grange is very ordinary.
GSAL would give you a much better all round education and hugely improved extra curricular but it does depend on how much of a financial stretch it will be

Allerton High is not the same school as Allerton Grange and I think gets better results.

If we want to get into Roundhay Secondary then we will need to move house and specifically buy into catchment. If we stay where we are then we will end up in a less well thought of secondary school, "very ordinary" as Loshad put it. So the question is really whether to spend money on school fees or spend money on a house in Roundhay catchment.

Roundhay is really not all that anymore. There is certainly nothing wrong with it either but I don't think it has the edge over Allerton Grange anymore.

Allerton High is currently the best high school in north leeds by some way.
